Some of you probably know that the London Low Emissions Zone (LEZ) is being extended to all diesel engined light utility vehicles from 3rd January 2012. All diesel vehicles have to be Euro IV emissions compliant which for Defenders is post 02 onwards (mine is 00). Doesn't apply to petrol engines or private cars.

I thought so what, won't affect me, Irish registration, I'll get away with it. WRONG! They have links to vehicle databases of most countries and will use European debt collection agencies to chase you for the £100 daily charge or £500 fine if you don't pay according to the Tfl website.

This could affect me big time as I may have to go back to the UK to work more often and it's mostly based on the London Underground. If the company won't supply me with a vehicle I could be looking for a car

Its a funny old rule, depends on the classification of the vehicle.

    In every cloud.......................Freelander Sean, Freelander............:D

Actually................any derogation for classic vehicles? Fancy rolling up to work in your FC101 gun tractor?

Classic in UK is pre 1973. 101 is petrol so is exempt anyway!

Have been considering a Freelander, especially for long runs to the UK, can't justify 28mpg in the 110 any longer. Caddy van would be even more economical but is a step too far!

Before the Greens got thrown out (thank god), there were mutterings of a similar thing for Dublin.

Had a reply over on the 4xforum from a guy who has dealt with cases on the LEZ and says they can't pursue you here.
Just dealt with a case for this. Issuing court sent paperwork to UK based Debt agency which tried to retrieve money form a Dublin client. You can contact the court direct and advise your vehicle is Irish based and you are an Irish Citizen. The Debt agency have no jurisdiction outside of the UK. The court should send you a letter advising warrant has been cancelled. This is how they operate on UK parking fines to once again no jurisdiction outside the UK. Do not contact the Debt agency deal direct with issuing court house.
