    Hello,
We recently moved house and there is existing satellite dish on the wall. Its all linked up I and assume its should still work ok

Is there an easy way to tell?
If its a freesat dish, I will buy a box and hope to plug it straight in and Im away.

Only markings I can see are Thompson.

As long as the dish is pointed at the right satellites (this one should be) & is still in good working order, you should be alright. It doesn't matter which service it was originally fitted for as Sky & Freesat receive from the same satellites & can use the same dish hardware.

It'll get you over Xmas at least.Try borrowing a box and plug it in to see if it's pointed at the right satellite. If you get English tv then it is.

you can wire brush and paint with smooth hammerite. Do back 1st so when you do front the runs go on the back.

    Thanks all,
Yes if this dish is good I'll give it the once over. I have now just asked a mate if he has an old sky box kicking around so hes going to have a look later, will be great if its all working.

I have today also been to the shops and a local installer.
Its looking like some fairly significant costs to get what I want either way.
Was ideally looking for a dual recorder possibly with HD. Seems a decent box (humax) cost £250 plus I've been informed even if I dont need anyone to come and realign (£40) I will most likely need someone to come and feed another line (for the twin tuner), although I thinking I can possibly handle that myself

Can see why many resort to sky!

Easy enough to swap the lnb on that dish for a quad.Make sure and secure the new lnb (if you don't have plastic screw simply use a cable tie) I've seen loads of lnb's hanging off dishes lately after all the wind, probably just pushed into the arm & not secured.

Loads of tutorial videos on youtube for connecting cables up etc.

That dish is a Zone 1 40-45cm designed for England here in Ireland we use a zone 2 60cm dish although some guys use the Zone 1 on the east coast of Ireland.
