That ''homeless'' guy in town [yes, it's Dublin]

Something that really pisses me off lately is that foreign guy you see in town begging, shivering without any shoes. Countless times ive seen him, the first time i threw him some money and seen people handing him loads. I even saw someone give him a pair of runners. And everyday he's doin the same routine act of shaking in his bare feet. If theres one guy that deserves a punch in the neck its him!

Sorry, thought the people of AH might appreciate a thread on discriminating beggers..

I think that you're just jealous that you didn't get the runners.

That's the guy that the cops caught recently leaving the country with about 5k. They say he has more shoes than footlocker.

I you are talking about the one in dublin, i've seen him get up from o'connel bridge walk around to north lotts (was visiting a friend who used to live there) and pick up his shoes from some short woman.

The same dude always asks for the receipt for the shoes and heads back in 10mins later to get either a refund or a credit note. He's a scammer, not as you've described above.

i remember reading an article, I think it was in the irish times - it wasn't a tabloid paper anyway - a couple of weeks ago that he was one of the Romanians on a bus that was raided by the Gardai and he had 1,500 (I think) cash on him.

    I wouldn't give him a cent.

This is so common, if you're on Lower Abbey Street at the right time of day you see the Roma beggars coming off their shifts. They put on their non beggar coat and wait for their lift home and another one comes up and takes their spot.

You can't trust any beggars, if you want to help donate to a homeless charity.

    Is this the guy ?

I think what he's complaining about is that he's shoeless, and there is no reason for him to be shoeless he'd make enough in a day to buy a new pair of shoes but being shoeless means he gets more money, it is a bit insincere but his feet must be cold so whatever he is using the money for he is pretty desperate to get it.

I saw him on Grafton St one day, about 2 weeks ago when it was FREEZING!! I went to Pennys and bought him a pair of runners and brought them back to him.

Next day i see him on the same street with no shoes on. it's because of people like him I will not be giving anyone any change ever again!

all those romanian beggars live in houses get social welfare with RA. They are professional beggars that dont actually need it...give them nothing.

if you want to donate money to homeless give it to the focus ireland guys camping outside the gpo

Apologies, I should have pointed out to all you boggers that we Dubs refer to Dublin city as town. Hope that avoids any further sarcastic comments :)

He ask you for the receipt? As previous poster said they get receipt from you and go back and and get the money back on them. Thats why you see them with no runners on. I hate the roma's beggers with all my heart.

Us "boggers" refer to our own city as a town too, but we happen to realise that this is boards.ie, not boards.dub

Next time you want to call it "town", head for the Dublin City forum.

Now get down off your high horse, oh-so-sophisticated city dweller, and learn that there is in fact a whole world outside the M50. Not just inhabited by boggers either.

That post deserves ~3.5 million thanks (my estimate of the non-Dublin population).

PS - Im just back from town. Athlone Town. :D

If he'd asked me for the receipt i'd have made the cheeky c*nt swallow them!

Most homeless people have gimmicks. There is the rabbit man, the young lad that looks at deaths door on Henry street, the women on o'Connell bridge with the cross, the man on westmorland street that looks like he is meditating, "please help my baby" woman in temple bar, the "have a nice day" man on the halfpenny bridge and of course "I need my bus fare to omagh" man.

I almost never give money to homeless people, but I saw that bloke recently and actually stopped and went back to give him some money! Cnut!

    Lesson learned
