There are vast chunks of the republic I have not visited but Cahir in Tipperary seems quite cool what with there being an awesome looking castle in the middle of the town.

Most Dubliners holiday in Ireland at least once a year, so they know the towns and villages quiet well.

Some are larger towns, but all very enjoyable places to be.

    Westport
    Kinsale
    Ballyvaughan
    Carlingford
    Kilkenny
    Strandhill
    Sligo

    Dingle
    Lisdoonvarna
    Ennistymon
    Carndonagh
    Clare Island
    Any village on Achill
    Glenties
    Scariff
    Carlingford
    Tramore
    Carrick-on-Shannon
    Clonmel
    Clonakilty
    Baltimore

I've had good times in all of these, not saying they are great every weekend, just my own personal experience.

    bantry is a lovely spot.

Far from it, it's infested with with scumbags, travellers and wanna be hard shams. A 13 year old girl was raped there by a group of teens not so long ago.

The bay is covered in rubbish and sh*te when the tide is out and ithe place smells really bad too.

Only living about 20 minutes from it and I can really say it's one big sh*t hole.

Carlingford is actually a European Destination of Excellence.. I love the place, but it can hardly be considered to be a town, can it?

Lispole is ok but prefer Dingle or Kenmare. Clonakilty is a nice spot!
