    They are not separate laws according to the FA;

E3 (2) In the event of any breach of Rule E 3(1) including a reference to any one or more of a person's ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, faith, gender, sexual orientation or disablilty (an "aggravating factor"), a Regulatory Commission shall consider the imposition of an increased sanction...

So Evra could possibly be guilty of that as well?

Yeah, 5 game ban iirc. He admitted it, said sorry and now plays with the guy he racially abused :p

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Yeah, theres the actual Racist abuse that Suarez has been found guilty of and the made up abuse that Liverpool fans are trying to invent for Evra.

Have to say, found that funny.

Just a couple of questions about this incident.

How many black players have come out in support of Suarez?
How many have empathised with him?
Have any black Liverpool players (past and / or present) come out in support of him? John Barnes? Emile Heskey? Anyone?

That might have been all it would have taken to avoid this current **** storm.

I haven't seen any players come out in support of him, white or black. Supposedly the liverpool players will be doing something before the game tonight.

Uruguay captain Diego Lugano said he feels Suarez is the victim in this, or something to that effect. The general reaction in Uruguay seems to be one of bemusement.

Apart from Lugano I don't think any player has voiced their opinion.

    Gus Poyet.
Poyet told Ultimas Noticias newspaper in Uruguay: "The ban is incredible, shocking, it's disproportionate. I back Luis to death.
"Things have happened before with Evra. He is not a saint. He is a controversial player. I don't know in which world we are going to live in from now on. People will accuse each other of anything.
"Suarez just arrived [in the Premier League] and there are things that he has to learn when you are in another country because they might be normal in your country but perhaps they are not considered that way in other parts of the world.
"I have tried to explain that we live with coloured people in Uruguay. We share different experiences with them. We play football, we share parties. We are born, we grow up and we die with them. We call them 'blacks' in a natural way, even in an affectionate way. That is the way we were brought up. We are integrated and there are no problems from either side.
"I've explained how the Uruguay people and the South Americans experience these situations with coloured people. I've been many years in England and I understand them. I know how to deal with it, but Luis has only recently arrived here.''

    Stop the press.

A culture that accepts racially ambiguous language bemused at a culture that doesn't accept it.

    Liverpool players statement:
Luis Suarez is our teammate and our friend and as a group of players we are shocked and angered that he has been found guilty by the FA.
We totally support Luis and we want the world to know that. We know he is not racist.
We are a squad of many different nationalities and backgrounds. All of us support the Club's commitment to fighting racism. All of us accept there is no place in the game for any form of discrimination. As a group of players we totally support the Kick it Out Campaign.
We have lived, trained and played with Luis for almost 12 months and we don't recognise the way he has been portrayed. We will continue to support Luis through this difficult period, and as a popular and respected friend of all his teammates, he will not walk alone.

So which excuse is it ? - Is Evra an unreliable witness or was Suarez unaware of the harm his coments might make due to cultural differences ? You can have one or the other, Gus but not both, surely ?

Although Suarez is far from an idea candidate for the FIFA Fair Play Award Evra is by no means a saint either.

To look at the issue in Suarez's defense in Spanish the color Black is "Negro", its not an offensive thing to say, even if you added a swear word to it, it is less offensive then in English.

Havent really been in here today, has the JT being charged news gone unnoticed? would have thought Id be seeing a bit more about that, do the FA have to wait till the court case is finished to bring their own charges?

Do Liverpool genuinely not understand the fact you can be guilty of a racial slur without actually being a racist or are they being deliberately stupid?

They keep pushing the fact he's not a racist, as if it proves he didn't make a racial slur. Unreal.

They are trying to be clever with their words by claiming Suarez in innocent. They will do this by ignoring what he admitted to saying and continue to claim he is not a racist.

Maybe in a perfect world. However all you have to do is read this thread to realise it makes no difference to most people and they will label Suarez and racist anyway and this is the point Liverpool players and fans are trying to get across.

I really wish the Suarez defenders would stop the babe in the woods defence

Oh he didnt mean it to be offensive? Wow he must be pretty thick then, living in Europe for how many years and doesnt know yet that the term Negro/Black whatever will be taken offensively by the opponent...

    Bit of a joke tbh

It is irrelevant anyway, he is not in his own country, even if racism is acceptable there it is not over here, it is his fault that he did not know this, so the arguement is null and void even if he is so innocent and didnt think it would cause offence

They are trying to push the fact that he's clearly not an actual racist as solid evidence that he didn't mean it as a racial slur.

Ridiculous in the extreme, but I suppose it will work on some people.
