Importance of how a man looks to a girl

Yes, this is a question that has plagued mankind for centuries. How important is a man's looks to a woman. What weighting would you put on it?

Take obese guys out of the equation.
Do girls like men really look for hotness in a guy or are they essentially looking for a guy they can bring back to the parents? ie they look good-enough, are confident, high self-esteem, good job, good earning potential etc

Personally, I've never gone for looks. I'm hardly Naomi Campbell myself!!:D

If a man can make me laugh, is presentable (personal hygiene, clothes and all that), loves animals and is nice to my friends and family as well as to me, then that all that counts.

We all find different things attractive. No one man is ever going to appeal to all women.

Good looks is great, but most women realise that looks fade in time and a good personality/sense of humour/sincerity/honestworthy is part of the package.

men like different things too, but amongst men there is a general opinion as to what is / is not attractive

Many guys in the past have said to me that looks in a woman doesn't really matter to them that much. I find difficult belief that they genuinely feel this way inside, I think that they're just making excuses. But that a discussion for another day.
But is it the same for women, does looks really matter, and if so to what degree?
