    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1136108/HATCHET-MAN-Take-Lucas-Rafa-going-wrong-Liverpool.html

"If proof were still needed of Rafa Benitez's lack of judgment, Lucas provided it beyond doubt in Liverpool's FA Cup defeat by Everton.

The manager shows a faith in this spectacularly unimpressive midfielder that suggests they must somehow be related, and he is paying the price for that now.

How players such as Lucas survive at Anfield while others such as Robbie Keane are allowed to leave can only be explained by the manager's arrogance and lack of judgment."

Found this gem on the depths of RAWK. Amazing how ridiculed he was.

    I'm one of those people.

If you make a bet, you honour it. If someone signs a contract, they rightfully expect it to be honoured. If you take out a loan or a mortgage and spent it on an overpriced house, you should expect to pay it back.

That is how life works. You take responsibility for your decisions and don't try to reneg just because the situation has changed or it hasn't worked out how you wanted. It's pathetic to think any other way.

Who gives a **** like? If its in his contract, he is entitled to it. Irrespective of anything, it is scratch all in the context of what we paid for him or pay him monthly.

I wonder how much we paid Nando and Mereles etc in loyalty bonuses ?
What exactly is Carroll being loyal to here, the club or his contract ?

Its like Roy or Hayley Cropper getting a bonus for not cheating on one another. Not like either are inundated with better offers

It's beyond pathetic in my opinion but no need to bring that sort of language into it.

if he had the bonus payed as part of his weekly wage, it wound go from a 60,000 to a whopping 62,885. The people crying need to understand that while to me and you this is crazy money for them it's relatively little.

So basically by that I mean chill the **** out.

    It is in his contract.

I bet that you are one of these people who think that bankers should give back their bonuses that the got 5 years ago too?!?

I am aware it is in his contract.

I didn't think John and Tom thought to themselves, Dya know what? I think we should give Andy a loyalty bonus for staying with us for the past year and not handing in a transfer request.

Good man Andy for getting it.

The point was that managers are likely to feel slighted when a player decides to leave in a manner Owen or Torres did.

That is the point. The reason for the initial post.

You going on some rant about about whether or not Owen was worth signing for free on a short-term contract was beside the point.

Whether or not Kenny decides to re-sign Torres will be down to a number of factors. One of those, in my opinion of course, is the way they parted company in the first place.

I once again state it is naive to assume that such a motive would not play a part in the decision just because "its Kenny!"

Nope I am not on a rant. I am merely pointing out that when somebody said they thought Kenny would not let a grudge affect his judgment on a player you claimed that he would and then went on to support your answer with your opinionthat you thought it would and just continued on like what you said was fact and then kept referring to your earlier opinion as some sort of proof that the grudge would in fact affect Kenny's decision. You can't do that.

Oh and it was you in fact that brought up the Owen transfer, not me. Again using it as some sort of proof that managers do in fact hold grudges. Again referring back to your previous opinions as tho they were now some sort of proof that backed you up in the next point!

    The Guardian

Steven Gerrard is scheduled to give Liverpool a timely injury lift on Monday by returning to full training following an ankle problem.

The Liverpool captain has missed the club's past eight matches having developed an infection in an ankle injury suffered in training in October. The midfielder has been in light training for the past few weeks and stepped up his rehabilitation during a trip to Abu Dhabi in recent days, where he trained with Al Jazira.

The Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, has consistently refused to set a comeback date for the 31-year-old but, with full training planned for Monday, Gerrard should be available during a hectic period for the club.

Dalglish, whose team have at least 11 matches to play before the end of January across the league and both domestic cups, said on Thursday: "Steven is progressing and training really well. Everyone here is delighted with his progress. We will have to wait and see on when he comes back. I am not going to set any targets. He will be ready when he's ready."

Gerrard has made only nine starts for Liverpool since Dalglish replaced Roy Hodgson as the manager in January, having been sidelined for six months with a groin injury. He marked his return this season with a goal in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United and his recovery will be keenly awaited at a club that recently lost the influential midfielder, Lucas Leiva, for the rest of the season with a ruptured cruciate.

Lucas's replacement for the defeat at Fulham, Jay Spearing, is serving a three -match suspension for his straight red card at Craven Cottage.

might be the guardian but still

    Interview with Marty Skrtel.................
Martin Skrtel has spoken about his blossoming partnership at centre back with Daniel Agger and explained why he believes they can get even better in 2012 as the Reds look to bring success back to Anfield.

The pair have started the last six Barclays Premier League games alongside each other but the Slovakian is well aware of the quality ready to step in from the sidelines.

"Daniel is a top quality player and is easy to play alongside," Skrtel told Liverpoolfc.tv. "We have a very good understanding on the pitch which is important and we are working hard and enjoying our job. I think we are doing well together."Our squad is now very strong. That is very important for the team because we have a lot of games in front of us, especially January when we have cup matches as well, so we need everybody fresh."

Skrtel and Agger were both at their imperious best as the Reds returned to winning ways on home turf against Queens Park Rangers last weekend.
Luis Suarez netted the only goal of the game against Neil Warnock's outfit and Skrtel insists he is more than grateful to have the Uruguayan star on his side.

"It was important for us to keep a clean sheet against QPR and we have been working hard on defending as a team," he added.
"A clean sheet always gives the defence and Pepe a lot of confidence.
"It was very important to get back to winning ways at home against QPR. We created a lot of chances again and Luis got the important goal to get us three points.

"Luis is just a great player and it is very difficult playing against him on the training ground so I know what it's like for the opposition to face him.
"He is so competitive in training, every single session. I try not to let him score but that is not easy I can tell you as he is very difficult to mark!"
Liverpool's No.37 also revealed how happy he is at L4 and the confidence Kenny Dalglish has given him since returning to the club for a second spell in the Anfield hot-seat.

"I'm really enjoying my football under the manager," said Skrtel.
"The atmosphere around the club is very good and he has played me in almost every single game which gives me a lot of confidence.
"I'm happy I am playing and I am working as hard as I can to stay in the team."

Dalglish's charges now start a busy run of games around Christmas with Sunday's trip to Villa Park to take on an Aston Villa side that returned to winning ways themselves last weekend with a 2-1 victory at Bolton.
The game will see Stewart Downing return to the Midlands and the winger of course scored the goal that beat Liverpool for Villa in the final game of 2010-11.

Skrtel said: "It will be a special game for Stewart going back to his former club. He did very well at Villa and I'm sure he will get a good welcome.
"He scored against us in the final game of last season so it would be great if he could do that again for us this time. "We have a lot of games around Christmas which is a very important period for us. There are a lot of points to play for and we need to get as many wins as we can, starting with Villa.

"They are not an easy side to play against. You always get a difficult game at Aston Villa but we will be up for the fight and do everything we can to get the three points."

Skrtel will come up against Darren Bent who has a decent scoring record against Liverpool, having netted against them twice for Sunderland in a 2-2 Anfield draw in September 2010.

Now in the claret and blue shirt, Skrtel and co will have to be on red alert against the England forward.

"Darren Bent is a great player, an England international striker," said Skrtel. "We have to keep an eye on him all of the time and stop him from scoring against us."

Will be great if a fully rejuvenated and in-form Gerrard returns for the 2nd half of the season. It would *CLICHÉ ALERT* literally be like a new signing.

    Nice one Jonjo!
Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has set his sights on a first-team spot at Anfield after winning the Football League's young player of the month award while on loan at Blackpool.

The 19-year-old won November's award after scoring four goals in five games.

"I have got to try to force my way into the Liverpool team and stay there," Shelvey said. "I feel this is a good chance for me to kick on.

"Being at Blackpool has helped get me back into Liverpool's plans."

Shelvey was recalled by the Reds at the end of November after a season-ending injury to Lucas Leiva and played for three minutes as a substitute at the end of Saturday's victory over QPR.

With Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard still on the sidelines and midfielder Jay Spearing missing the next two games through suspension, Essex-born Shelvey is keen to make the most of the opportunity.

The former Charlton man, who joined Liverpool for an initial £1.7m in May 2010, added: "There is only so much I can do on and off the pitch - selection is down to [manager] Kenny Dalglish but, if he does come calling, I will be ready - and hopefully I can take my chance.

"I think that going out on loan has helped me get my confidence back up and I think I am showing that in training back here."

Shelvey made the loan move to the Seasiders at the end of September after asking Dalglish if he could leave Anfield temporarily in search of first-team football.

"When you are not playing at Liverpool it gets you down, and you sometimes need to go away and play games," he said.

He scored six goals in 10 games during the full spell, including a hat-trick in a stunning 5-0 win at Leeds.

And he is adamant his spell at Bloomfield Road also helped him sharpen his match fitness after finding his route to the first team at Anfield blocked.

"Blackpool is a great club to play for and the attacking way they play suited me down to the ground."

Seasiders boss Ian Holloway said Shelvey's performances for the Championship club had given everyone at the club a lift.

"He was fantastic," Holloway said. "He had a lot of frustration when he first came.

"I think he has all sorts of talent and will never lose that. Hopefully he will get the chance to use that and shine because he really suited us.

"The boy is good enough to play anywhere and in our system floating in off the right he was dynamic. He has gone a long way to giving us some confidence and making us realise we can win some games.

"I hope his career goes from strength to strength."

Liverpool play Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday, marking the start of a sequence of five top-flight games in 16 days over the festive period.

Shelvey's only appearance this season prior to his loan move was as a late substitute in the 3-1 Carling Cup win at Exeter on 24 August.

He made 21 appearances during the 2010-11 season, but just four were starts and he failed to score.

Nope...Ben Smith said it is expected around 4 but highlighted that it's expected, not certain.

Others are saying Evra could delay things because he isn't happy with the proceedings, all the documentation is on white paper.:pac:

It's a strange sponsor if true, are we expected to go out and buy 747's in support of them ?
