Right now Japan aims to kill around 935 Minke whales and 50 Fin and Humpback whales a year

This is done on an almost yearly basis - how much "Scientific research" needs to be done?

Why don't they call it like it is, it's a cull to feed the Japanese demand for whalemeat.

    Simples

Care to provide a case where Greenpeace have used incorrect data

    Yeah, Brent Spar amongst others.

I never got the whole "save the whales!" thing...
Because overall who are we to say anything about it to the Japanese? .. We breed animals to be slaughtered. We fish like hell too.

I understand about extinction. Any animal/fish/Mammal should not go extinct.
But yet people dont moan or complain about the chicken or cow. People love a good piece of chicken or a streak or burger. I cant help but feel if a whale burger was popular you wouldnt have half the talk about it ;)

What has cattle being slaughtered got to do with the supposed killing of whales for scientific purposes? Cows aren't endangered last I heard.

So you went culling seals as they affect fishfarms in the fjords. hmmm.. how long are seals around, how long are fishfarms around, fishfarms do more damage than good to the environment, and as you talk about visiting a slaughterhouse, it's the same as a Salmon being bred in one of those cage things in the ocean, in crammed conditions. You can see the farmed salmon with thick whites lines in the pink of it - it's fat - as it hasn't had enough room to swim around hence it builds up fat. Ugh !

Anyhow that's way off topic, no nation should accept charity to support the killing of whales in my opinion.

No actually it builds up fat because it is kept from maturing so it builds up fat rather than putting its energy into developing a gonad and thats not the only factor at play there either. They get plenty of exercise swimming around in circles in the cage or against the current ( which fish farmers want, because a strong current helps alleviate the environmental problems)
Also do you eat veg? How many rabbits do you reckon have been culled for that? You eat beef? How many badgers are being culled to stop them spreading diseases between farms.

Overestimated the amount of oil remaining but was a huge victory for the organisation. They were ESTIMATING the amount though as they did not work on the rig. Care to provide an example that is actually significant

They claimed there was 5,500 tons of oil in her. There was actually about ~50. They also completely misunderstood a number of other facts and claimed there was radioactive substances involved.

they just aren't analogous. Chickens and pigs are bred to be eaten, they aren't giants living in the ocean free who only have one calf per birth and take years to reach maturity.

Nothing surprises me with the human race, i'm no animal rights nut, but over fishing our waters in general is out of order imo..

Population numbers are usually done on a yearly basis.

And how come no one seems to care as much about Cod :(

Thats the general response... bred to be eaten.
That because something is bred, its ok. Thats their purpose. But it just sounds a load of crap. To soften the blow that an animal is bred to get killed then chopped up and eaten.

For me, I eat meat and fish. So I feel how can I possibly say its wrong for someone else to hunt, kill and serve something? IMO< you find the countries that are against whaling are the same countries that dont eat it.

You can't show the above without showing the below which was the whole premise of the episode, in my opinion.

I don't see morally why farmed murder is OK and hunted murder is not OK. Fair enough if the species is endangered, but we hear of cod stocks being totally wiped out and I haven't seen too many "Save the Cod" protests. Also how would you react if a load of Japs started going nuts over us wanting some cod with our chips from Burdocks?

Also according to the WWF (think Panda not Hulk Hogan) 90% of Northern right whale kills are caused by collisions with shipping.

No true Scotsman would do such a thing.

What's the difference between a whale and a cod in terms of fishing?

Humans have more of a connection with whales because we view them as being somewhat intelligent?

Could understand if people giving out about this are vegetarians, but they most likely aren't.

Must finish my dinner, I'm having steak..

My understanding is that they are using the money to beef up security for the hunting they are doing legally that is attacked (illegally) by greenpeace. Stopping them hunting protected waters is something that should be enforced but likewise greenpeace's and the likes attacks on legal whaling should be stopped too.
Not Green Peace, She Shepard, and fair play to them at least there doing something about it!
