Well not just middle child but do you fit your birth order stereotype?

First born - more responsible, over achiever

Middle - Peace makers, just do the bare minimum

Youngest - overindulged, pampered and spoiled

Also reports say that intelligence of the first born will be higher than the second child and the second child will be smarter than the youngest.

I'm a middle child and I'd say my older sibling is smarter than me, also my youngest sibling is spoiled.

Most parents pour their resources into the first child and less so as it filters down.

I'm a middle child. My nickname at home is Kofi Annan.

It can be the opposite with the youngest. The parents don't give a shít about that one.
e.g, when the first born is growing up he gets the best of everything. All the attention, best clothes, best toys, best medical treatment.
By the time they get to the 3rd, he gets shíte hand me down clothes, anything new is the cheapest because the parents can't afford the good stuff or know it's not worth paying for it. same goes for toys. First child bangs his knee the parents rush him to crumlin hospital. By the time they have their 3rd, they could drink a bottle of domestos and the parents tell him he'll be grand and won't even look up from the tv.

I'm not the first born but I'm definitely the smartest and most handsomest.

First child: Bossy, over achiever, worrier, responsible, hugely intelligent.

    That's definitely me :D

Dunno about my next sibling in line being a peacemaker though, not sure about that one.

Matches my family to a tee. I am the eldest.

    They fit for my family.

I'm the middle child and I always did fuck all. Big brother's the responsible one that's had a job since he was 15. Little sister gets away with everything we would have been killed for.

I'm the youngest in my family. My parents split up at a time when the rest of my siblings had moved out so I was living without either parent at 15. Spoiled rotten, clearly.

I'm more qualified and in a better paid job than any of my siblings.

    Your theory is flawed

I'm the youngest. I'm definitely not spoiled but I think it's fair to say growing up my parents had more than with my two older siblings. I'm also the only one to go to college and results wise, in school I did the best. Depends on how you define intelligence though!

I'd read a few articals before that: The first Child is the smartest, the middle one is the most independent, and the third child is the most artistic. I'll have a look for the articals later when I'm at home to quote them exactly.

Youngest child here. I have a lot of siblings and I think the parents were so exhausted after about 20 years of parenthood that I had a free rein growing up, so I was never mollycoddled or spoiled.

There are two 'packs' of siblings in my family, the older brothers and the younger ones (my sisters and I). Because my brothers were college students when I was a boy the younger pack grew up wanting to imitate them, and so we became very mature for our age.

As the only boy among the younger pack of 3 sisters, though,I do admit to being a little bit pampered by them at times.

I dont think you're going to like what you're about to read.

    Only Child Syndrome

A terrible disease that typically effects only-children, but can occasionally strike people with siblings. It may also effect children whose parents divorce.
Symptoms include: playing mind games with members of the opposite sex, a cripling desire for instant gratification, the inability to compromise or share, and a total disregard for anyones thoughts or feelings but their own.

I'm the eldest. I'm not an over achiever but would be responsible, independent and maybe a little bit bossy!

The middle child (30) is independent too, as in she barely bothers with the rest of the family, and has a huge chip on her shoulder about the rest of us being favoured.

The youngest is spoiled, not so much with material things really, but with attention and worry from my parents as she can't look after herself, lies a lot and gets into a lot of money troubles She's 25. I think they need to stop bailing her out all the time!

From what I've seen so far it seems I was right about the younger child thing - they don't like what they're reading so they throw their toys out of the pram.

Also are the youngest sibling more competitive when it comes to sibling rivalry?

Im middle child, im the one to come to with mediocre decisions

I'm the first born. I'm not particularly responsible though, and my brother, the youngest, is way more of an over-achiever than I am.

I'm the eldest - definitely not an over-achiever but I would agree with intelligent and responsible :p

I'm definitely the typical eldest child, responsible, good in school etc. My sister, the middle child is the wild one but also very creative and independent. My brother is dead on, but will always be mammy's little baby. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that he's the only son as well as the youngest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,369 ✭✭✭✭ejmaztec

When kids start going out, the parents' attitude changes as well. The oldest one gets the grief, and by the time the youngest one starts going out, the parents couldn't give a sh1t.

    1. It's 9 o'clock, where the fuck have you been until now?

    2. It's 2 in the morning, where the fuck have you been until now?

    3. Where the fuck have you been for the last ten days?

Totally wrong for our family. My brother is 3 years older than me and is the biggest child in the family. I am the second child and would have been the achiever and had very interesting career choices pushing myself while he plodded along. I am known as the glue of the family coz I organise everything.

The next in the family was born 10 years after me and is an artistic git. He got "lost" for a few years but has just signed some record deals and has by the middle of next week his 10th single will be released. (Its dance stuff that is released online so he is not some big pop star....yet! Calvin Harris watch your back!) He is the most disorganised frustrating person but absolutely so loveable and sweet.

My little sister was born 7 years after that, 21 years between the oldest and youngest, and she is a real hard worker and achiever, coming out top every year in her University course and getting the best leaving cert in our house. In fact she is the only one likely to finish her degree with only 1 year left.

She IS spoiled in that we all make an extra fuss of her and buy her little presents all the time since she was born but she is so grateful for everything and so sweet, never causing anyone a moments bother throughout her 20 years that she is almost the most perfect person on the planet. So cant say that she fits the baby mould really.
