Where's Father Ted when you need him, we could do with a multi-culturalism in craggy island type presentation round about now.

Is there anything to be said for another mass?

FA Cup third round meeting with Oldham will take place on Friday, January 6. Kick-off at Anfield is scheduled for 8.00pm

Hopefully we'll see some of the young fellas given a run - Coady, Robinson, Coates etc.

He should nibble on one of them during the hearing.

A big "NO" to wasting money on Torres from me.

He might have been one of the greats for a couple of years but that's all in the past. He's nowhere near as quick, strong or fit as he was back then. That coupled with the attitude he's picked up, where he's now too good to need to work hard, means he's a massively overrated commodity.

Forget the name, forget the history. Would you honestly spend £20m on a striker who has scored 3 league goals in the past 11 months ?

Have we not learned from Spurs' mistake with Keane ?

    Can't agree enough.

As dispirited as I am with Carroll, I'd still rather we persist with him and buy no one if the only other option was Torres for 20m.

Is there any indication as to how many days the Suarez hearing will take?

Main body of evidence heard tomorrow, could be a decision on Friday.

Well keane was never world class in the first place and spurs were forced into the transfer a bit with injuries, I'm not saying your wrong about Torres but I might be willing to take a chance on him, his attitude would have to change alright though.

I wouldn't take a chance on him, it's the equivalent of when Madrid were selling Owen. We were lucky Newcastle bought him ahead of us.

And the other thing is, at the time it was said that there was a bust up between him and Kenny. Kenny supposedly told Torres a few home truths because he felt he was too big for his boots. I can't see either party being up for it, especially given what was written about Torres' relationship with the rest of the squad not being what you might have thought it was too.

And let's not forget we won nothing while he was at his best, what makes you think he'll make any difference now ?

If they had any conclusive evidence it wouldn't take this long.
He'll be considered guilty at this stage by many factions regardless of the outcome.

The delay was apparently to allow Suarez time to prepare his defence

Wonder would there be any chance of Tevez on loan? City obviously aren't going to loan him to anyone they consider to be challengers to them, so it could be possible if the Milan move falls through?

Torres will either come good for Chelsea or he wont that's it. I don't think this possible move back to Liverpool is ever going to happen, Liverpool aren't in the CL which is a sticky point and his wages would take a hit.

I think its astonishing some people think he is playing poorly because he misses Liverpool, or is heartbroken over leaving, or his head is simply not at Chelsea, that's just nonsense. He lost a yard of pace due to an accumulation of injuries and his confidence is shot. He would be playing just as bad if he were still at Liverpool. He was already in poor form when we bought him off Liverpool.

Talk about short memories. His attitude in his last 12 months with us and with Chelsea in the last 12 stinks. I wouldn't have him back, I believe he'd probably have a distributive influence on the team/club.

Sweet we need someone with a ditributive influence on the team now that lucas is out. :D

If Kenny thinks he can get him back to his best then we would take him, if not he won't and we shouldn't take him. Imagine we had a fully fit and firing suarez and torres partnerwhip tho, we would sail into the top 4 and beyond imo.

There's been plenty of rumours about this, but Gerrard's pal Paul Gratton seemed to suggest otherwise on twitter yesterday

And in fairness to Owen, he had quite an impressive goals to minutes ratio with Madrid.

I didn't see that, I'd question anything written about anyone leaving the club now after seeing the way FSG conducted the firing of the Red Sox manager Terry Francona recently.

They use some lovely smear tactics - some of it was obvious with Torres, and Meireles. (Making it appear as though our hand was forced by a last minute transfer request when we'd been in negotiations for ages)

    PaulGrat1 Paul McGrattan
"@GazMacLFC: @PaulGrat1 Even though Stevie couldn't stand him towards the end?" Nonsense.

That was his response to being questioned about a falling out in the squad before Torres left

I don't know anything about how FSG deal with things regarding the Red Sox, but tbf, Liverpool have been doing that sort of thing since before FSG took over. Wasn't Mascherano's departure handled in a similar manor?

And you know all this to be fact then do you? Would you care to share your source? Oh and while I have you, Oh mighty one, to what would you attribute a certain Andy Carroll's dip in form since his move from his beloved Newcastle to us?

    He's spot on.

Andy Carroll - a bad thigh injury, a poor work ethic and bad habits.

bring me Torres back in a heartbeat for £20m.

i'm telling you, his heart is still at the club, you'd see a different player than the one you see at Chelsea, and he, despite his recent form, is a predatory finisher when he's in the mood.

he left because of the previous ownership. he was promised investment, he didn't get it. he was then asked by Purslow et al to stay at the club, put up with it, until it was sold, not because he was part of the long term future of the club. no, we didn't try to convince him to stay like that. instead, we asked him to stay until January so that the club could be sold at a higher price. he was treated as an asset. that, on top of the broken promises, meant he just didn't see a light at the end of the tunnel. and he only had a certain amount of time at the top.

people talk about his first interview with Chelsea as if it was a dig at us.

    1) if it was a dig at anyone, it was the owners;
2 he has to say he's now arrived at a big club.

now, it could have been worded better, but as Al said, i reckon he tried to justify it in his head.

as i say, i'd take him back instantly, and bite your hand off, for 20m.

plus, that would mean Andy Carroll, technically, would only have cost £5m.

    ;):D:pac:

IF Torres were to come back, i feel wages would have very little to do with it from his point of view. He looks like a man who just wants to be held...wants to be loved ( by 40,000 scousers -depending on the size of the away crowd). My gut feeling is i'd absolutely love him back, a couple of goals and suddenly we'd see that same old grin, the confidence bursting through his veins.
Someone posted above why take him back as we won feck all with him in the side anyway..but look at the football we are playing now, he would fit right in straight away, and Kenny would definitely be the man to manage him (shudder when i think of him playing under woy).
Gamble 35 on the potential of Carroll, gamble 20 on the potential of Henderson... believe me this would be a 20 mil gamble worth taking. His game is based on confidence, not just fitness and speed, if you look at his goals many are simple awesome natural finishing ability.
He will do little or nothing at Chelsea over the next couple of years anyway... 20 million could be the difference between Champions League money which would be even greater in the long run, besides, those who argue of a comeback limiting Caroll's potential surely know we need another striker regardless. When i think of mediocre Darren Bent joining us i just sigh.
It makes sense for us. It makes sense for him. I know it probably won't happen, but i'd love it.

Larry Lucchino briefed a journo about Francona's history of taking prescription painkillers and hinted that Francona had some sort of problem with them. And that it affected his managerial ability.

Theo Epstein is the real reason the Red Sox were poor this year, but the suggestion was he knew where all the bodies were buried so they never took him on in the media.

Ok. And to what would you attribute this sudden problem of having a poor work ethic? He had it at Newcastle. What bad habits? Were they picked up at newcastle or did he develope them after his move to Liverpool? Where would he pick up bad habits at our club if that's your answer?

I don't follow baseball, but I do know that Larry Luciano has nothing to do with LFC apart from being a partner in FSG. He's not on our board
