To be fair to manning though, he is a better OC then most actual OC's!

I'd love to know what Manning thinks of Clyde Christensen, because if looks could kill, he'd be dead a long time ago.

Trade him. The colts window has passed I think. Even when he was elite they still struggled to make and win superbowls so I wouldn't expect him to do it after neck srgery when there time is even weaker. I don't think Manning has many years left in him.

I would keep Manning, because if he is healthy I think Colt's could reach a Superbowl in the next 2/3 years, as I don't think the team is as bad as they have been playing.

The running game has been better this year, and with Peyton the pass game will always be ok. Although the defense is not great, the reason the have been so woeful this year is because of the offence's constant 3 and outs and non existent playcalling. A good DT and a couple of dbs would make a huge difference. Also the team was demoralised before the season even started, and just look at broncos to see the change in attitude one player can make.

One thing Colts have to consider is that Wayne and Mathis may leave through free agency. If that is the case they might get rid of Manning and start rebuilding from scratch.

With Manning yes, now eh. Their roster just doesn't have much talent. Manning has masked the deficiencies for a while now. I will say though that a better Head Coach than Jim Caldwell would have got at least a win by now. Good Head Coaches find a way to fashion wins. He is a dreadful HC and endemic with some of the issues with the Colts. Dungy picking his successor was an utter joke.

By picking Luck they are losing on a lot of talent to put around Manning if they go for a run. I'm pretty sure I heard someone in the know saying it would take 3 first rounders plus a few other high picks to get the pick.

    I think that:
Manning plus Luck for several years; won't win any Superbowls which is what Manning and the Colts should be about at this stage. I highly doubt they keep Wayne after this year.

Imagine now just for a second, Manning is traded and that team also swoops for Wayne. Manning at the Dolphins would automatically render them a serious contender in my opinion. A Wayne and Marshell tandem with Manning throwing the ball could be devastating...

The bengals or Patriots could if they wanted trade to the number spot... and do it only using the raiders picks.

    Good ould charitable raiders

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are stacked with talent but I think with a few tweaks the team is closer to .500 than .000 even without Manning.

I agree totally with the coaching, way too conservative, especially defensively. As I said in my other post, the defence has some talented players if the scheming was better. Not even Revis could cover anyone if the coaches are telling the dbs to give at least 10 yards cushion. I don't know why they even huddle as everyone knows its just going to be a Tampa 2.

I'll use Tim Jennings as an example. Used to give up huge plays and looked worse than Lacey or Thomas do now. Was picked up by the Bears after he was cut and is playing very well for them as starting corner.

I couldn't see Carroll give up so much power to Manning. And this is one of the problems that faces any kind of movement for Manning. If he goes to these teams are they going to give him the same kind of respect demanded by him over the Offensive Coord and Head Coach. You would have to find a head coach that is willing to let Manning loose and Pete Carroll isn't one of these hence why his team is young. Dude still thinks he is coaching college kids.

Part of the reason the Colts coaching staff are so sh!te is because Manning did have so much power. Being an OC and QB is a nice talent to have, but manning should be calling occasional audibles, not every play. I think it's handicapped us in big games in the past tbh. coaches at a new franchise would give him massive respect, but also - rightly - be the ones calling the shots. Either way, when Caldwell leaves this offseason. A head coach who will stand up to Polian, and have absolute power on gameday, is a must.

In a way, this franchise started to unravel when Dungy left. Caldwell is Polian's puppet now. And for 2 seasons Manning had more power than his own head coach. Any franchise where the Coach is at the mercy of the GM is a no go. look at oakland and Dallas

Pats should trade for him and put him behind Brady just so he knows his place.

Yeah, a banged up, out of shape Manning in a foreign offense is probably not quite as good as brady. not quite.

There would be no more OC and QB fighting going on as Peyton could do both jobs..... To a higher level too

Dont you think brady is a bit small to play center?

I'd say the Peyton Manning discussion needs its own thread because something tells me the discussion of "will he, wont he" will go on for awhile and when the decision is made, this forum is going to explode.

Maybe a mod can create a new thread and carry over the conversation already posted.

Take Luck in the draft and trade him after. They could easily get 4/5 players of some desperate team for a player of Lucks quality. That is assuming that Manning will last at least 3 seasons.

    Oh god....definitely not that!

    Not surprising....
Peyton Manning is willing to create a contract that would contain no guaranteed money up front and would be incentive laden with bonuses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭McG

that would be great for the Colts. Always thought the best way forward (if Manning really does want to stay) is a restructuring of his deal. Can't afford to keep him or trade him as it stands.

With the Colts as bad as they were last year there should be no thoughts of trading away the Luck pick. The team is in a rebuilding period, with or without Manning.

I said all a long this would be the best move for them and Im surprised many wrote Manning off as greedy. The chap wants to stay if it meant re-structuring it now seems he is willing to discuss it. Manning as starter if healthy for 1 more season Luck sits behind him and boom Luck with Manning as his mentor and he will get the best help around.

I wouldn't say its set in stone that this is a move to allow Manning to stay at the Colts - it just means that now it is possible to trade him. It could just as likely be a gesture from Manning to ensure that the Colts get something for him, and I would say it especially bodes well for NFC teams (i.e. Washington) who would be hoping to trade for him.

Colts would be fools to let him go if he re-structures that contract and it will show how much of a muppet Irsay is. Manning mentoring Luck would be epic and sets up the Colts to ensure they get the best out of the rookie. Use the next 2 years then to re-build.

Totally agree. It could be the difference between Luck having an Alex Smith career, or an Aaron Rodgers career. i think luck is smart enough to realise this too. To be tutored by a guy like Manning, with the talent he has, would be awesome. But best of all.....

    18 stays in Indy!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

How will that affect the cap? Could they afford to sign anyone else?

Well straight away if he re-structured your saving $28million, then it would be performance based, so it would easily work! And be easier to re-sign some FA!
