My parents (rural area) still do this. Something for the binman, coalman and postman. Usually about 20 euro or a bottle of whiskey.

No, he can fúck off. It's his job.

    I guess it's OK.

Just don't tip him if he's carrying a bin at the time as he might spill the contents.

This used to happen when the Corpo provided the pick ups. I think it was a free service. Now you are charged for rubbish removal, Not many will give a tip.

Yep always, and the postman too. It's nice to be nice.

I've never even seen my bin men, they call in the morning so there's not a hope I'll ever be around to give them anything. Even if I was I wouldn't give them anything extra, the need for these kind of bribes are thankfully gone.

    Bin men don't exist, it's a myth.

You put the bins out at night and leprechauns pick them clean before the morning.

Postie gets an Xmas card and a tenner every year.

If they get tipped like that from most houses then I think I'll apply for a part time position next Christmas. They must make a fkn fortune!

Not anymore, years ago you could ask the Binman to take nearly anything & around Xmas you get a knock looking for a Tip, you got rid of your unwanted rubbish & the Binman got a few extra quid at Xmas so everyone was happy.

Now if the Lid of your Bin is open it will not be collected, so why tip?

I bet they don't have extra rubbish blowing round the street ?
Or there green bin left behind because there's aero board in it either ?

The bin-men should give us tips, because it costs us an arm and a leg to use them.

Ah yes, I forgot that a lot of people on AH are fond of platitudes and like to repeat them.

Wouldn't even consider leaving a tip. The only people I tip are waiting staff, if they've done a good job and taxi drivers 'cos the firm I use have put up with me and my family for years in various condition

Not anymore. Being a binman these days is a piece of piss. Wheel bin to lorry and machinery does the rest. Back in the day when you could leave out 10 black bags and a rusty bike and they'd take it it was reasonable as it was a bad job, with garbage juice all over you. Now, you are paying a private company per kilo to take it away, you must be joking.

If you tip the bin man, just be sure to wash your hands afterwards!

I'd give em something at Christmas if he's alright to talk to and not a complete w@nker.

Well I aint leaving a tip for the Green Bin lads. They've gotten into the habit of not collecting on the day they're supposed to which is pretty annoying

Why? They get paid relatively well and usually finish early.

I dont think too many peolpe will be doing it now a days, also binmen, postmen, milkmen etc shouldnt have to be tipped.

yes, binmen have a dirty job and our post man is very reliable so they should get a tip, even the smallest tip can add up.

Ah yes, I forgot some people in AH have no sense of humour and assume everything that is posted is deadly serious.
