Irish soccer is hampered by the numbers of people following British teams.

Leinster people who support Munster Rugby should not be allowed to support either

I definately agree with the idea that people should support the teams from their own cities/regions.

Alot of the people say there's links with the family throughout generations. Hilarious how its usually the successful teams. Ya'll meet 50 Liverpool fans before you meet an Everton fan. Ditto for Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

In general the quality of the Irish news media leaves much to be desired.

Journalists regularly write/speak on matters they clearly know $hit all about /havent researched properly, rarely dig deep enough into the details behind a story, give politicians/clerics/business leaders a far too easy ride and overlook dissenting viewpoints while being scared sh1tless of being seen to go against the "consensus".

On European Issues coverage is particularly pi$spor although the British media are almost invariably even worse in the latter regard.

i think children allowence shouldnt be got rid off

why would i pay for your children if you cnt afford them dont have them

get rid of all alowence most of them annoy me

I've never seen someone change their mind so quickly!

An opinion of mine that's unpopular among quite a lot of people I know.

The Guardian newspaper is fairly good for reporting on issues that other papers don't focus on, but is let down by its almost contrarian anti-conservative bias. I'm quite a lefty in many ways but I can predict their slant on any story before I look at it. The opinion pieces are the worst, almost as subjective as pieces in the Daily Mail, but at least better-researched and thought-out.

And despite its flaws it's still better than the vile tabloids.

After hours makes many worthy forums either without input or very little.
its a case of Boards having a Forum that is a victim of its own success but to the detriment of other forums.

eventually most people give up on the other forums because it is like typing to oneself,do not bother to post much on less popular forums or close their account.

    Not AH's fault.......... just sayin

Pasta and bread are much, much crappier, processed crap basically. Give me potatoes over either any day.

Down with potato haters. I'm Irish and I'm more than willing to accept the potato-lover stereotype.

The noblest and most versatile of all vegetables is the humble shpud.

Isn't declaring that that good-looking EE woman you spot probably isn't Polish not as daft as declaring that all the good-looking EE women ARE Polish? Poland's a big ol' country, and formed by far the biggest EE immigrant group during the boom. So statistically, when people see an EE stunner, there's a good chance she IS Polish.

I can't see how that opinion would be unpopular...it's completely accurate and fair :)

Just as an extension to this, I don't believe that the journalistic world gave too much of damn about gangland killings, other than its possible benefits to circulation, before the Guerin murder ( which was itself a disgusting act of cowardice ). The media indignation that was expressed after it was amazing. It was like the end of civilization, almost as if a journalist's life was much more important than the life of a mere mortal.

Just to reiterate, this is no comment on Veronica Guerin's awful murder, it's more about the preciousness of the Irish media. Who else could come up with the slogan...."Before you make up you mind, open it". Yes thanks, I really need some jaded hack to patronize me and tell me what to think

    Fair comments?

Anyone who reads tabloid newspapers and those mags like OK!, Star, Heat, Closer etc. and actually believes anything in them are really really really thick. Fine if you're just flicking through for the photos, but to read and absorb any of the text would just melt more braincells.

Same for anyone who listens to that complete tw4t Gossip Girl (can't remember her name) on 98FM, she literally makes up sh1t for her slot on the air.

Rugby is the most boring, tedious, unspectacular field sport. It's only popular in Ireland because we do well at it. There's a reason it hasn't caught on in a lot of big European countries- it's shít.

Although I quite rugby and played it when I was younger, I completely agree that it's only popular in Ireland because we've had a successful 10 years at international and provincial level.

Remember when soccer had us all on the bandwagon? (which is now back again)

If we have 10 years like the Scottish rugby team have had, the yahoos won't be long jumping back off the bandwagon.

I think MMA is one of the most intellectually engaging sports in the world, and that it is vastly overlooked in this respect because of its meathead image.

I also think that it is a superior sport to boxing because of the variety of styles and techniques involved.

People should be able to wear their England jersey in Ireland on match days without being harassed and without it being assumed they're looking for attention - by people who don't know sh1t about them and support Premiership teams instead of their local teams despite being so "concerned" about Ireland and territory.

Ditto a top that has a union jack crest - people who compare the union jack today to the swastika are being offensive to holocaust survivors.

So why hasn't hurling caught on in other countries?

I don't think Ireland was occupied by the British in the sense most people take it. I think we were very willing participants in occupying other countries under the British banner, but when it turned sour some people started fighting them to make out like we weren't willing participants. I think the way History tells it is probably a load of revisionist balls because we don't want to admit we were the ones running a lot of the empire abroad.

We need someone to simply take control of this country, not by elections because we cannot elect the people who can help. We are too selfish.

    Irish soccer is hampered by;
    - the fact that the best players ply their trade o/s and the dregs are left
    - whinging about rival sports, GAA/rugby
    - a poor organising body FAI

    If you take a look down through the 10 most popular team sports in the world;
    Football
    Cricket
    Basketball
    Baseball
    Rugby Union
    Field Hockey
    Volleyball
    Ice Hockey
    American Football
    Rugby League:eek:

Even both rugby codes make it on there, some of the stats are skewed due to the popularity of certain sports in highly populated countries, cricket in India for example.

Although all these sports are played and watched by many millions, only 1 could genuinely be considered a global team sport - Football.

The point I'm making is that the merit of a sport shouldn't be on how internationally popular it is.
