Can anyone think of a likely reason why there might be an odd, occasional, humming in the plumbing - that stops when a toilet (nearest the hotpress) is flushed?

It happened three times this morning but hasn't come back as yet.
I'm not entirely sure but this seems to only happen in cold weather.

Is your cistern slower than usual to refill after flushing , its more than likley the ballvalve washer thats the problem , this washer over time almost stays blocking the orifice which causes a humming noise as the water forces its way through , and when you flush it the noise stops until the ballvalve is shutting , if you take a picture of the ballvalve ill show you how to replace the washer
