'Fraid not feeling as bullish this morning ........ so took Betfred's 12/1 on just a win. Incidentally, lobster is dog cheap out here. So what does that make me?:)

I have a funny feeling we're going to draw, win or lose. Definitely one of those three, I'm sure of it. You mark my words

At some point, Liverpool are going to turn around and hammer the living **** out of someone. That day could be today.

    That, or 0-0.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I think that's the team I would have picked almost, maybe Bellamy for Kuyt.

But I think Bellamy is a better option of the bench and Kuyts dogginess is needed when we have no Lucas/Spearing

Very surprised not to see Bellamy start - he has been our best attacker* recently. I think again its a case that Kenny doesnt want to have two of his big signings on the bench at the same time (Carroll and Downing) although there is also a hope that Downing will push on from his promising cameo last week.

Anyone know stats on Andy Carroll starts relative to his availability? I know he's started 13 league games of 33 since he signed, but for how many of those 20 he didn't start was he unavailable?

Just highlights the lack of attacking depth that Liverpool have available with Kelly Carragher and Coates on the subs only Bellamy and Carroll on the bench and Shelvey a very much unproven midfielder.

I apprecriate that Gerrard, Lucas and Spearing are out for various reasons but wide pacy players are required.

Hoilet would be a good addition in this area in January

I cant wait for the Janury window and all the rumours to be flying around!

Our bench is the strongest this season that it has been in years. That said, we do need that extra winger and also with Carroll not cutting at the moment, a goal scorer is badly needed.

Our bench is stronger than previous years but we're still short on 'game winners' from out wide and upfront.

    January shopping list

    Cheap and cheerful centre forward
    Solid central midfielder
    Right winger

A defensive MF would be great - Keita maybe - but its one or the other for the RW/CF positions I'd say. If we can get our hands on a half-decent young fox-in-the-box type, I'd be happy for Kuyt/Downing for the right side of midfield.

Indeed. I've been very impressed with Spurs and think they have a good shot of finishing 3rd.

Spurs have no chance of finishing 3rd, pal. No chance. Come back to me at the business end of the season. If we address our home form (today was hopefully a start) then we might just pip them or Arsenal for 4th.

It's not that I don't respect Spurs, it's that I see them as a Villa or a Newcastle. It's a real wake-up call for our club to be languishing behind Tottenham Hotspur in the league.

Can't see the logic in splashing out for a CF. We're mostly playing with only 1 out-an-out CF at least until Carroll gets motoring. Kuyt can cover also. With Gerrard on his way back, hopefully him and Suarez can combine as the front pair with Carroll deputising.

How you can even compare Spurs to Villa is beyond me. Spurs are a fantastic side with probably the best midfield in England.
I believe Spurs will qualify for CL next season and doing so in style. Will they make 3rd? I don't think so but they will be close to it.

Spurs have a better squad that us. Villa's and Newcastle's squads are almost laughable when compared to ours, not to mention Spurs and thats just the tip of the iceberg with regards to where you are wrong.

My point is that they are punching above their weight.

Don't normally post on here, but this is a ridiculous post. Good to see from the replies that some people know what they are talking about.

Keep your hat on. I'm talking about Spurs in terms of being a smaller club than Liverpool...which they are. That is an indisputable fact.

Maybe I'm from the old stock of LFC fan in that I'm not happy to see my club behind Spurs in the league. City and Chelsea phenomenon is out of our hands, but we've spent enough to be keeping the likes of Spurs in check.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think we'll qualify for the Champions league this year. I don't think this will necessarily be a disaster.

Unfortunately, purchasing Carroll, Downing and Henderson will not edge us past Spurs, City, Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea.

I can easily see the final Top 3 belong:

    City
United (or the other way round)
    Spurs

With Arsenal Chelsea and Liverpool scrapping it out for 4th.

I dont think anyone can realistically dismiss Spurs.....For example they were missing VDV and Modric, arguably their 2 best players and easily beat WBA away. Parker is the type of MF player they were missing and the likes of Defoe and Pav (when hes in the humour) can get goals.

    Dismiss Spurs at your peril

I'm not happy seeing Liverpool behind anyone in the league, but you gotta take the opposition into account. City, United, Chelsea and Spurs all have better squads than us. Arsenal I would put us equal to, if Van Persie gets injured I can see them suffering.

Undoubtedly we are a bigger club than Spurs. But so too are Leeds United and look where they are.

This season to expect us to finish ahead of Spurs is unrealistic. I would put them down as being closer to the winners than us at the end of the season tbh. I'm just hoping for an Adebayor strop, and both Bale and Parker getting injured.

Well our owner went out on a limb and basically said it would be a major disappointed if we didn't .

Personally it would be a massive disappointment and i have a bad feeling all those points we left on the pitch since day1 will come back and haunt us .

We will need a similar purple patch like last season after Christmas to get us back in the mix in a more confident capacity , cause now i dont know what way games are gonna end .

We are drawing games we should have won .
Winning games we should have drawn
Loosing games we should have won .

Spurs may or may not finish 3rd but to suggest they have no chance is beyond ridiculous. The bookies currently have Spurs as 4th favourites for the league so it's hardly outlandish to think they have a shot at a top 3 finish.
It's not that I don't respect Spurs, it's that I see them as a Villa or a Newcastle. It's a real wake-up call for our club to be languishing behind Tottenham Hotspur in the league.

Spurs have finished above Liverpool for the last two seasons and are currently 5 points ahead of Liverpool having played two games less. It took a few years of consistent investment in creating a squad of quality for Spurs to be challenging ahead of Liverpool and it will take Liverpool at least another summer of investment to be realistic top 4 challengers.
