Samsung galaxy S Plus v Sony Xperia arc

Should be getting one of these android phones for xmas (Hopefully, if im good to the missus;)) and haven't a clue about them, never used one, or any touch screen phone before in fact. Galaxy S2 is a bit too pricey and would be pushing my luck so best not mention that!

Also is it foolish to begin with these phones if no experience with them, in other words are they idiot proof?

I have the sony xperia arc and think it is great. It is very easy to sue. You need time to adjust to touchscreen but once you do it will be fine. Just play around with it when you get it!
