Hi all, I love the distorted guitar on these songs, especially The Letter, the first one. I know it¡s down to the guitar and amp a lot of the time, but it seems to be a really punchy overdrive with some good low end, but not a lot of sustain by the sounds of it. Would it be as simple as the guitar amp combo, or is there a way of getting that punchy bassy sound generally....

The second vid is a cleaner guitar, but it still seems to have a nice low end on it too.....my hunch is the amp/cab combo....

Distorted amp, turn your volume and tone knobs back on your guitar. Should get a similar enough sound.

That's an orange amp sound for sure, I'd say a rockerverb 100 cranked and then the volume on the guitar rolled back along with the tone.

They're extremely bassy and dark amps.

that's the classic Orange AD30 sound right there,I should know-I have one ;)

P.J,the cure and Portishead were the reason I bought it and I've never looked back-amazing amps! but try to find the single channel version as it sound better

I figured the amp would have as much to do with overall sounds. Yup, sweet amp, if I can ever afford one, it's on the hitlist. That airline guitar in The Letter vid ain't half bad either. I love that punchy bassy kind of distorted sound...
