    Father Christmas.

Never heard of "santy" 'til i moved here when i was 9.

    -"What's Santy brining you?"

    -"Who?"

    - "Santy. What's he bringing you for Chridtmas?"

    - "Oh, you mean Father Christmas? How do I know what he's bringing me? It's a surprise, isn't it?"

See, I never understood all this knowing what you were getting malarky. As far as my lot were concerned, you waited til the big day to find out if you had been good enough to get anything never mind what we were going to get!

As a result, I was never dissapointed. He always came and always left me loads of great surprises.

I missed nothing except believing some man came down the chimney with anything I asked for, only it never happened.:pac:

it was great believing in santa, always the not knowing factor and trying to catch him out, that was half the fun :)

and when parents realised I didnt believe it, they felt WAY less pressure to get me what I wanted :(

    win lose situation :(

I always assumed the lower class called him "Santy". At least that's my experience of it. It's usually accompanied by a strong Dublin accent.

Oh the lower classes and their idiosyncrasies.

I found the fact that Santa doesn't exist quite painful when I discovered the truth. Being 17 years old is tough enough with out that crap.

Is Santaí really the Irish for Santa, or is that a joke?

"The coke man". I will leave it up to you to decide if that is a reference to drug use, the coca cola influence on the red clothes wearing character, or both :)

Santa was never popular in our house, Dad used to buy really crappy santa gifts and really good dadda gifts so that we wouldn't like santa any more than him.

I really hate "Santy" I dunno why but as soon as I hear a kid saying I automatically go "ugh". Nothing to do with north/south side, I just can't stand it.

    Always Santa in our house.

Like Chuck stone, I was crushed when I found out that Mr Claus was actually not real. I was 28 at the time and I felt that I wasn't ready for the truth just yet. :(

Where I grew up posh mollycoddled kids called him Santy, normal ones - Santa.

There is a whole world outside of Dublin...

I always associate "Santy" primarily with that affected accent people in the Midlands put on once they've decided they're too good for most other people.

Mummy, Mummy, I want a pony, tell santy to bring me a pony!

Always called him Santy as a child before my mam and dad told me he died of AIDS when I was 8. Fun while it lasted.
