This is already looking like a must-win game. Its gonna take a huge number of points this season to finish top 4.

Well that was as bad a result as possible, Spearing is out for 3 matches I take it.

Its the age old story with Liverpool, play a big game and then go to loose against lesser opposition.

Nightmare scenario, that result. We are going to have to go on one hell of a run now to contend for 4th.

I don't think we're gonna get fourth now. We seem unable to beat these so called lesser teams. Arsenal, as bad as people said they were, will win their share of these games. Even ignoring todays match we have 5 draws out of 7 home games.

We have an uphill battle for top 4

Took the words out of my mouth. I've never known fans to get carried away with a few good results as Pool fans over the last 20 years, looks like they will never learn

Same old stuff from Liverpool. We wont get fourth at this rate - in fact, we will be lucky to get 5th. Our top scorer in the league is on 4 goals and we have a miserable 17 goals in 14 games. You can point to hitting the post and chances created, but that excuse is finite and cannot be used all season.

The sending off was a joke today but you couldn't say it changed the game. We had plenty of men back to defend and it was a double Johnson/Reina error that cost us the goal.

Our real problem is that our summer signings have failed to improve the first team. We added attackers in Carroll, Henderson and Downing but this has not resulted in more chances being created or goals being scored. In fact, it has often hampered us.

Henderson cant play in a 4-4-2 as hes ineffective on the right and too soft in the middle. And in Carroll we have a player who is far from mobile and isn't suited to our passing game. But even at that - isnt he supposed to be clinical in front of goal and good in the air? We havent seen that from him and he looks about as dangerous as a Clinton Morrison.

Downing has also been v.poor but I was impressed with his cameo today. The stint on the bench seems to have made him hungry which is good to see. Other bright sparks were Enrique, Agger and Suarez, as usual. Adam was hot and cold. His passing was extremely erratic and we would have scored if he passed to Bellamy in the second half. He had his moments though.

And anyone who says we can secure a top 4 finish without signing a CM in January needs to take a look at the game today. Adam, Henderson and Spearing is not good enough for the remainder of the season.

I dont think we have a chance of top 4 to be honest. looking at the teams ahead of us and how we struggle in these type of matches to go and win them, season over before Christmas again maybe :(

Funny how people jump on here after a defeat.

I don't think we played badly at all.

A controversial sending off changed game. Also Senderos should have been sent off.

Suarez had a good goal ruled offside as well.

Would like to see us being more clinical upfront, but no need to panic like some will do on here.

    QPR (H)
    Aston Villa (A)
    Wigan (A)
    Blackburn (H)
    Newcastle (H)

Dare I say we need 5 wins from these games which bring us up to the end of the year & the City match on Jan 3rd. Very disappointing from Spearing tonight. He was poor enough before the harsh sending off. Didn't really do himself any favours following through. I don't know what to say about Carroll. Very poor tonight.

CANNOT believe Maxi was dropped tonight. Anything good we have done of late he has been involved. (especially when you consider what we did at the cottage earliar this year)

Maybe Shelvey will get a run with Spearing now suspended. Even with 10 men we should have won that game tonight

8 points behind Spurs who also have a game in hand on us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,636 ✭✭✭jenno86

Jay Spearing will never be good enough for us. He doesn't have the intelligence. I was saying that before he got sent off.

Didn't like the look of the team before the match tonight, hate to say but Neville was right when he said the team didn't have balence. Would have started Maxi tonight instead of Spearing. I don't think the partnership of Adam and Hendo would be as bad as people are making out, especially against weaker teams.

So looks like they will have go out and buy a CM in January. But who?

Spearing isn't the answer for us either. Hurry up and get fit Lucas!

Danger of conceding was always there. Adam ended up playing the Lucas role more than Spearing and Fulham had too much space outside the box.

We should have had a draw as Suarez was onside for the goal but them's the breaks.

Carroll really pissed me off tonight, for a big man his attempts at winning the ball in the air are laughable and lack conviction. I think rather than focusing on a DM during the window a striker should be a priority.

We are almost halfway through the season and we have scored 17 goals. I think its gone beyond 'I would like to see us being more clinical' - our season now depends on us being more clinical.

And we can only say 'we played well' or 'we created chances' so many times after a disappointing draw or defeat. The fact is, the team is sent out to get 3 points and we have not been good enough at that this season.

That's the thing about Henderson - he can't really play in a 4-4-2. We would get destroyed in the middle as he doesn't really win the ball back and isn't a great tackler. How many tackles did he put in today for example? Arguably, Adam shouldn't play in a 4-4-2 either as he does his best work with 2 men beside him.

Firstly, we're not half way at 14 games through season.....wait till we're at 19 games for that.

Secondly, do you really expect Liverpool to win every game? We've had a good run and there is no need to over-react after one away defeat when the game could have gone either way.

I think Kenny sends teams out to win every time but people have to realise how poor they were when he took over and how much development he has to do.

The demands people are making here are ridiculous.

    Jesusss lads, get a grip.
You are rebuilding, same as Chelsea, its going to take time and Kenny isnt finished yet. Like Chelsea, you have a few good players who are worth rebuilding around, Johnson, Suarez, Enrique etc, some new ones still finding their feet. You've just lost Lucas, which is like Chelsea losing Mata or City losing Silva.
I'm sure Kenny knows that Suarez just needs a good partner and will go shopping in Jan.
You could still easily finish 4th
    Long way to go yet
