Ikea "studio racks". Cheap solution

Came upon a thread on gearslutz that had a very good tip that i thought i would share. Here's a link to the item in Ikea -

With some rack rails added you can make these into nice, sturdy studio racks. Got some in Ikea and have them put together. Just need to get the rack rails but they are nice and sturdy and perfect dimensions for rack units.

Anyone know any other useful money saving tips for the studio?

Yeh, the rast hack is great. Anyone know a good place to get the rack rails though?

I made one of these a couple of years ago. Perfect for what I wanted at that time. Cheap as chips. You can buy the strips off of ebay sellers in the uk or go to Studiospares for them

4U fits neatly but you can set them up for 5U with a bit of DIY on the spacing of the wooden support shelves.

I've 2 of them here. Never bothered getting rack rails for them though as they're surpisingly expensive and shipping alone on them costs more than the rack!
