Is that Spearing with a perch?

Spurs and Arsenal are on some run atm.

A win really is very, very important, especially with Lucas out.

Suppose Maxi and Bellamy will play against Fulham?

Well it should allay fears that he was going to be out for much of the season.

    Not really.

So far we have had Dalglish come out and say that he will be back in three games. Then at the start of November we were told he was doing well and would be back sooner rather than later. Now at the start of December we are back to him being back sooner rather than later. It is looking like another season with Gerrard spending large chunks out injured.

Still cant figure out why we allowed Aquilani to go out on loan with no option to recall him. Hes still our player!

    Bloody sickening!

A reaction for what though? Is that post linked at all to anything discussed in this thread? I don't get it!

As of today we currently have the best defense in the league with 12 goals conceded. Man City had been on 12 before their game and now both themselves and United are on 13.

Only 17 goals scored though which is shockingly low for a team with champions league place ambitions.

That said we have been desperately unlucky in a few games this season, and I've no doubt our chances created are up there with the top teams in the league, but unfortunately we are hopelessly nonclinical in front of goal as we all know.

Hopefully we can turn a corner soon, and thankfully its starting to look like we have, because we need to get a good run of wins going with the fixtures coming up if we want to establish ourselves in the running for 4th spot.

What's your team likely to be against Fulham?

Mostly same as started against City, Bellamy and Spearing to come in.

    Reina
    Johnson
    Enrique
    Agger
    Skrtel
    Spearing
    Adam
    Maxi
    Bellamy
    Suarez
    Kuyt

This is what I'm hoping for and tbh I think he'll go for something like this. Maybe Downing instead of Maxi and Carra instead of Skrtel. Actually forgot about Henderson so it could be a good bit different to this, wouldn't mind seeing Henderson though (as long as he's in the center), thought he did alright against City.

Or what about a shock start for Shelvey :/ Doubtful I'd say.

Leave Carra where he is, Skittles and Dagger have done brilliantly in the league since they have paired up!

Maxi deserves a run over Downing on current form, unfortunately Downing has not done anything of note since joining!

The team I put up is what I want. The two that might be going in are what I think KK might put in but hopefully not.

I'd give big Andy a start tomorrow night. If only to mark Hangeland at sey pieces!

We're missing a centre forward to score those chances. The problem is Andy's form. If he can turn it around, get a few starts in the team and start to put away some more goals, we'll be fine. The flipside of that is if he hasn't improved by mid-January, there'll be a strong chance of us signing another striker and he'll likely be sold by next season.

    It's a massive 6 weeks for him.

it's not Andy's fault we're not playing him more often. he's absolutely fine when he plays, save the missed penalty obviously.

we're not playing to his strengths. either we do, and start whipping more balls into the box, or he will have to work damn hard to adapt his game to the way Kenny has us playing...which is far more intricate around the box than is ideal for Andy.

we just shouldn't have bought him if our style of football isn't going to ever suit him. if all we wanted was a "plan B", we should have bought Ricky Lambert or something for a million.

But he's quite clearly not. And if he is just 'fine', is that why we bought him? He's been neat and tidy of late but he hasn't achieved even 50% of what's expected of him - if not scoring goals (which is a minimum requirement), then at least creating havoc and setting some up. It seems to me as if, because of some of the earlier criticism he's received that we're all to willing to praise him for lasting the 90 minutes. He's been with us since January - Carroll needs to start producing now.

Exactly, just a couple of surly curmudgeons. Well-used to them at this stage.

Point is we're looking decidedly lacking in midfield after a preseason embarrassment of riches in that area. However, I don't accept the opinions about Gerrard likely being out for huge chunks of the rest of the season. Surely our medical team would've advised Kenny to hang on to one of Aqua or Meireles given that Stevie is crocked. He'll surely be back before Xmas.

This is gonna be a really tough call for Kenny. My feeling is that he'll play it safe and do a like-for-like replacement with Spearing coming in as a DM.

On the other hand, the Fulham midfield lacks any serious steel so Kenny might take a risk and play a more attacking team.

Kenny's call is either stick to the system or play to the strengths of the players - in our case a more attacking formation.

It's a double-edged sword though. Not playing him can't help his confidence, but if he plays and plays poorly that's erodes his confidence as well. Reminds me of the Keane situation, almost trying too hard and running around getting in the way.

I agree about the style of play, I just don't think he fits our system/style, but having spent 35m Kenny's gonna have to make him fit the system or the system to fit him. Will take every ounce of Kenny's experience to get this lad motoring, either that or we'll have a Shevchenko/Torres on our hands.

    yes, he is IMO.

i don't know why, if we never planned to play to his strengths.
He's been neat and tidy of late but he hasn't achieved even 50% of what's expected of him

the expectations are ridiculous because of the price-tag, which isn't his fault. if he was bought for what he was worth, 10-12m say, taking into account his injuries, he's been just fine.

i praise him when he deserves it. the only outstanding game he's had is the City game last season. he's been fine in many others.

he should've had the winner last week after only coming on in the 84th minute. he's had a couple of other games like that, where he's come on, had an impact, but has been met with a crossbar or an epic keeper.

this week at Chelsea, apart from the penalty miss, he was actually very good - he worked hard, had neat touches, and should've scored. my only problem with him is he isn't playing high enough up the pitch; but that's not all his fault. because of the way we're playing, it's one of the only ways he can get involved.

he has wreaked havoc in many games. for instance, at corners, where we have to whip the ball in really, he wins the majority of those headers due to his height and power. that should be a hint as to what he's capable of, given the right service.
He's been with us since January - Carroll needs to start producing now.

he does, because the pressure will only grow from fans.

if we start playing to his strengths more regularly, and we play him more often, there is no doubt in my mind he would start scoring pretty regularly.

Its like Barca when they brought Ibrahimovic. OK, we are not Barca (and Andy is no Ibra), but it may be a case of right player wrong club (or vice versa). I was really impressed with Carroll when we played them at (Sports Driect ;)) St James' Park last season, he had too much for us physically and bullied us to be honest, but they were playing a different style to what we play now, completely different. Barca are best playing without a stiker, and when Zlatan moved on (and he clearly didn't suit their style of play) he followed it up with a superb season at Milan.
I like Carroll, he can't help his transfer fee, but i wouldn't be surprised if he did end up elsewhere, and at a more direct side he'll score 20+ a season. But that just doesn't fit in with our current footballing philosophy.

with lucas out I think kenny has to throw Henderson in the middle with Adam. Spearing does a good job but is a more defense minded midfielder. I think the decmeber fixtures will reward out and out attacking football.
Fulhan,QPR,A Villa,Wigan,Blackburn,Newcastle - none of them have a center midfiled that would cut us apart if we went with henderson and adam.
If kenny goes with and with bellamy, suares and maxi with johnson and enrique getting up the line then adam and henderson will always have options i would expect us to socre plenty of goals.
Skertel and agger looking good recently .let hope agger does not get injuered again

Apart from the Youtube comments, any idea where that quote is from?
