French m51, loosely based on the American M1 and an icon of the French-Algerian War.

Outer shell is post Indochina War dating from 1955, while the molded plastic inner shell is dated 1953

A great site for info on this helmet:

M15 Chasseurs Helmet with veteran plate attached to the front visor. It was originally painted horizon blue, but was roughly painted slate blue during the war to reduce the shine of the original finish.

Hi Gary,D I believe is for Decontamination,F.S. is Fire Service,W is Warden,A.F.S is another fire service helmet this one been the Auxiliary Fire Service. The others I don't know but would think that the RP/W one is another version of Warden's helmet.

Hi any one know about this helmet. My dad got it from a friend with no info. It's a British army one, painted black and marked 1941 n55. My dad wants to know if this one was an iris army one...and why black? No markings on it.ok can't seem to post a photo?
