I have a budding orchard and in a few years will have excess fruit etc. One idea to use up this excess would be to use the apples in a cider press which can be gotten fairly cheaply these days. just submitted a post there linking this one, nice to ask friends over once in a while.

what else would a smallholder do with all your spare apples, there is a limit to the amount of apple tarts one can eat

The man to talk to is David Llewellyn. He runs Llewellyn Orchard Produce in Lusk, north Co. Dublin, makes great cider and teaches cider-making occasionally.
