Is there any way to adjust Screen Timeout to "Never"? My animal has now decided that the only way to get out of a black screen is via the Power on/off button, instead of the Back button as was usual.. This results in having to press the Power button when the phone rings & this cuts off the caller:mad:Have to then call back the caller and apologise for cutting them off:eek: Any help appreciated.

Same story here. The blade seems to be on the cheap side, hardware-wise, so I'm not at all, surprised to be honest.

I had the same problem with the USB cable but I'm using another one now which is working well.

I don't see how to fix the audio jack though, so I'd be interested to hear if you manage to send it back for repair.

Just back from a chinese shop in town where this dude managed to get a bit of fluff that got stuck inside the audio jack... so it wasn't a case of cheap hardware in the end.

So I've noticed my blade being very sluggish recently and am considering upgrading the ROM. The one i'm on at the moment is Swedish Spring RLS5. Is there a better one out there at the moment? I've been out of touch with any developments in the past 6 months.

Also, i've read somewhere about a possible solution to playing flash on ARMv6 devices. Does anyone know anything about this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,902 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

I'm on the same version of Swedish Spring with no problems now. Regarding Flash, there is a version out for the Blade. I've installed it, but it will not display any flash content from any of the sites I tried.
The processor in the Blade is not powerful enough to run Flash:mad:

You could try CyanogenMod 7.1 or some other Gingerbread ROM

Hey, could anyone tell me the differences between the ZTE Blade/San Francisco and the Orange San Francisco II (ZTE Crescent)? Are both phones as easy as each other to unlock, root etc? Any benefits of buying one over the other?
    Cheers

    and
    http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/san-francisco-from-orange-in-g

The 2 has a 800mhz processor. Also has 5mp camera. So as they cost the same from Orange , the 2 is the obvious choice.

Cheers for that, but is there a San Fran 2 unlock available? I'm looking around but can't seem to find any. Also, what do people think of a Monte Carlo? Bigger screen, £20 dearer with Orange but looks good... whether there is an unlock for that I don't know either.
Btw, if I bought one of these in an Orange shop in England would there be any problems? I obviously wouldn't mention bringing it back here and unlocking it or anything, but could I give my Irish address or would I have to make up some spiel?

Almost all Android phones can be unlocked, either free or for about €15. Have a look at www.fastgsm.com and see are those models covered.

There's a Monte Carlo unlock tutorial over at Mondaco now. One of my mates did it at the weekend. Not quite as simple as the SF tho.

Great, cheers lads! Nothing on ZTE San Fran I, II or Monte Carlo on FastGSM but I'll try Modaco. Sound!
    Btw any ideas on:

EDIT: From looking at MoDaCo seems that they're working on an unlock but it's still in the developing stages: http://android.modaco.com/topic/348975-unlocking-san-fran-2/page__st__20

Just a note that the T-Mobile Vivacity appears to be more or less the same hardware as the OSF2 with the addition of a front-facing camera. They seem to have unlocked both the OSF2 and the Vivacity on the Modaco forums using the same (tricky-looking) approach used for unlocking the Monte-Carlo.

I'm in the UK this week, so will probably pick up a Vivacity (tomorrow - weather a bit grim today) and see if I can unlock it. Will report back here with my experience.

Weird problem with my SF the past month or two... phone keeps randomly "losing" photos snapped from the camera. I found some of them with no file extension in a folder called Lostdir... when you add a jpg extension they're viewable but some have disappeared entirely and others have been duplicated into smaller file sizes. Pretty annoying since I use the phone to capture images of work in progress and for completed work.
Anyone any ideas? Still using the original orange firmware.

    Try another memory card.
    Sounds like corruption maybe.

Yeah maybe...it's done it with mp3s as well, but only ones above a certain size. Using the 2gb one that came with the phone. Anyway of error checking SD cards like you can with RAM?

Chkdsk on windows and fsck.vfat on Linux.
    Give them a try.

Maybe try the SD in a card reader to try the above and backup first before using.

Was just looking at the SFII on orange.co.uk and it also appears to have a front facing camera and lists Video Calling as a feature which would back that up. Although from the pics I've seen I prefer the look of the Vivacity - might see if I can get someone to pick one up for me and post over.

Yeah - looks like you're right on the front-facing camera. I bought a Vivacity at lunchtime today, so heading home (well back to my crummy hotel) in a minute to try to debrand & unlock it. I'm a newb at it, so I hope that I don't brick it.

Bit sorry now that I didn't get the SFII, as Orange are giving away a decent-looking set of headphones with it, but will see how I get on with the Vivacity.

Managed to unlock my Vivacity and put on one of the debranded ROMs from the Modaco site using post #86 from this thread on Modaco (more or less - where he says he "Reverted to a stock ROM", I hadn't changed the ROM, so just left it) and now have it up and running with my 3 Ireland sim.

Nervy moments while the shonky-looking progress bar on the unlocking software stumbled along and I also had a bit of an episode when I could only get into Clockwordmod before I realised I'd have to install a custom ROM (was my first time doing anything like this to an android phone).

There's a few people on the Modaco thread having trouble with the unlock procedure, but it could hardly have gone any better for me.

First impressions are that the handset itself isn't going to break any speed records, but it's certainly a lot of phone for €130 odd

GF has cracked her screen on the Blade. Still works absolutely fine but wants it fixed. Is there anywhere selling replacements that will deliver to Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,902 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

Try www.amazon.co.uk. Do a search for it.

Can't see any there - screen protectors or cases, yes, but no replacement screens.

The various ebay ones seem to be UK-only...

Just seen that tutorial that is exactly what im looking for. I have the white one and I hate it compared to the black cover. Where would I be able to buy the black cover, I cant find it on the net. When I search case or cover I get the usual covers to keep it protected.
    Any help?
