    Strawmanning.

Skrtel still dived and feigned an injury that he did not have. He fell down holding his face and rolled about holding his face. The replays showed clearly that his face was not touched.

He basically made sure that the other player got a second yellow and sent off.

People can try and say it would be a yellow anyway, but Skrtel's acting was disgusting and it pisses me off more because it was a Liverpool player doing it.

If people want to write it off as just being part of the game or chose to ignore Skrtel faking an injury, then they should remember that when a player from another team does the same against us and not give out about the other player.

Pretty sure there was blood coming from his mouth when he ran off the field after the incident so I think your wrong in saying that his face was not hurt.

There was no holier than thou attitude meant and I am sorry if it, to your understanding, came across that way. It certainly was not meant in a superfan manner nor was it any kind of dig at you.

I know where you are coming from with the if you can't beat them then join them comment, and I know that on many levels such a comment makes perfect sense as it can be hard to argue against in terms of the results such a tactic in general can achieve.

Well I'm happy enough to know that you at least see my point of view. In a perfect world they would just bring in retrospective banning for it and the problem would almost completely vanish but until then...

As for the self righteous comment, I meant it as in of course you are technically right in what you are saying, 100%. It is a grey area of the game we are discussing and you are coming along with your sweeping black and white arguments so we don't stand a chance arguing against it because of course technically you are 100% correct. But sometimes an argument calls for more than black and white, just ask Patrice Evra! :pac:

C'mon now...he obviously just bit the inside of his mouth for some added realism.:pac:

You mean this footage in which he is seen walking from the pitch with no blood coming from his mouth.:):p

the man still amazes me after taking so much stick at such a young age and also being foreign to become such a boss in the midfield. he would be one of the first names on the team sheet these days. hope the carroll and hendo haters take note

Quite surpised Skrtel is getting more abuse (by the Liverpool fans) than Suarez is.

An honest case can at least be made that Skrtel was actually hurt.

    Take note of what?

Lucas was excellent yesterday and has been very consistent in recent years in a Liverpool team with lower expectations/standards than 3 years ago.

    He also didn't cost 20m/35m.

Nothing wrong with people making the point that, as things stand, the Carroll and Henderson money has been badly spent when it comes to the relative contributions from both players thus far.

Looks like blood on his lower lip to me and I was watching in HD yesterday so much clearer than that video.

Your constant and unjustified criticism of Suarez is growing very tiresome.

Keep your head in the sand if you don't like to hear it but the criticism is not directed at the quality of his football.

The criticism this time is in direct response to some people feeling Skrtel made a meal of the Mario incident.

You will really destroy the credibility of this forum if you encourage fellow Liverpools to keep quiet when one of their players is behaving the way he is.

EDIT: "Contant and unjustified" - It seems you may be attempting to say that his negative reputation is unjustified which is obviously incorrect. If, as I spelled out above, I was criticising his football then I would be unjustified.

Casillas had an outstanding game against us a few seasons ago, we still put 4 past him that night. Watching yesterday's game again highlighted some lack of composure in front of goal. Downing (twice), Kuyt's header and Luis' first half volley all missing the target. Hart had a great game but we tend to make 'keepers MOM because we don't make the most out of our chances.

Xavi Valero used to give our strikers tips about weaknesses and preferences of the opposition keepers, dunno if these info were still there for us or not.

The art of clinical finishing has gone AWOL at Anfield. Last seen sometime between 2007-2009 in the armoury of some Spanish lad.

I feel sorry for the visiting keeper when we get it right

100% agree with you and felt that way before the MOTM announcement - I think the announcement made me reflect a little more on Lucas' contribution though.

Enrique and Downing too - at times I (and Martin Tylor) couldn't tell them apart such was their ease at raiding down the left flank.

Wonder how many of the Suarez haters would have him in their team? I'd imagine its high.

Also, is there a better defensive midfielder in the Prem than Lucas? Cant think of any myself. Amazing to see how far he has improved since he started. Wasn't he around the same age as Henderson when he first played for Liverpool? Makes you think....

Because they also both wear Orange Boots!

Again, I am not sure if you are fully understanding the argument here.

Criticising someone for diving or playacting does not mean you do not rate their footballing ability - don't try and lump the two issues in together.

    Were they?

Enrique just looked so comfortable attacking at times.

You are the one with your head in the sand, the man is doing nothing wrong yet you are saying he is behaving badly, he gets kicked a lot and goes down I have no problem with that whatsoever no matter how lightly he is touched he is entitled to go down and you have no idea how seemingly harmless kicks and knocks can actually hurt a lot.

I fear this post may epitomise the position which I hoped the Liverpool fans would be able to rise above when it comes to making excuses for cheating.

Suarez is an excellent player. A pest and a horrible player to play against. He goes down easily sometimes, and sometimes it is annoying to watch, but i wont be slamming him because of this. What do you want us to say. Drop him because of that? A lot of EPL players act this way to tackles. Every team has a player that does the same. I'd have Suarez in the team week in week out. He really isnt as bad as most make out.

Im losing patience with downing , seems fine till he gets forward , and andy carroll , cant see him be nothing more than a bench warmer ..
Hope in january we can bring in fresh faces , an experience replacement for carragher would be nice

But if he is touched its not cheating, and in some cases there doesnt even need to be contact, for instance if one player lunges in but the other player jumps the tackle to save himself there is often a free given in these circumstances

The fact is if a player does not go down they will not get the free and if you get a kick in the back of the leg or get slightly tripped you are as entitled to a free as having both legs kicked from under you.

Anyway at the end of the day I dont care what you think, to me winning is what matters at the end of the day and if exaggerating fouls is getting us frees in dangerous areas and penos then keep it up, if your fouled you deserve the decision but it might not be given unless you make the most of it.

    Simply not true.
The fact is if a player does not go down they will not get the free

Also not true - are at least a serious overexaggeration.

Mature - welcome to internet message boards by the way.
to me winning is what matters at the end of the day and if exaggerating fouls is getting us frees in dangerous areas and penos then keep it up,

    A sad indictment.

I hope those calling Luis a cheat and a diver remember the league cup game where he went between two players was trip in the area yet still stayed on his feet.

I mean if the man is a big cheat and diver that would have been the perfect time to go down with a pen and get a player sent off.

He gave a pretty much flawless performance alright - I tend to look at Agger with rose tinted glasses as he's one of my favorite players but he showed great composure and leadership yesterday - Lucas was having a great game and Agger still was on his back instructing him and driving the rest of the team forwards

I hope we can get him injury free for an extended period because he's a huge loss when out

So because he stayed on his feet once means he has never over-played an injury or gone down easily on other occasions? Interesting logic there.
