Kevin Davies has been booked a 100 times for what Balotelli did there. It was harsh to get sent off but thats football these days, glorified netball.

As for Mario leading with the arm. You see far more blatant leading with the arm most weeks going unpunished. He was quite unlucky to get a second yellow for that.

I don't blame the ref as without the benefit of replays it did look worse than it actually was.

If Kompany had gone down and feigned injury in the same manner after a Suarez challenge, both you and I would be spitting fire over it. Skrtel cheated by pretending to get a knock to the face, and he deserves to be criticised for that.

What about Aguero why not have a go at him for going down holding his face when tossling with Agger

I don't really see how anyone is arguing it wasn't a yellow, honestly. He led with his elbow, and then connected with his elbow. It wasn't malicious, but it was dangerous. The only reason it's up for debate is because it was his second yellow, that's it.

of course it was a yellow card, if anything it was a case of persistant fouling. After his first booking, he made 2-3 silly fouls after that.

Skrtel made the most of it, but Balotelli was silly IMO.

Skrtel is not the first Liverpool player to make the most of a challenge like that. Charlie Adam likes the odd dive, Suarez certainly likes to hit the ground often, Stevie Gerrard has taken advantage of slight contact on more than one occasion and I could go on.

Replays showed that? The ones I saw showed him catching Skirtels with his forearm/elbow as he leads with it. It wasn't a thrown elbow with force but he clearly catches him having jumped at him rather than the ball. It's a yellow all day and all night.

to me all of your above posts indicate a a serious set on Martin Skrtel for some reason.

Mainly because you are disappointed that he is not as hard as his tattoos suggest. And that you just don't rate him as a player.

Do you take a similar highground opinion when Suarez hits the ground 5-10 times a game at the slightest touch? or our captain taking the occasional dive?

    Answer me this one question.

Do you wear the same halo when you watch your own team?.

Nah, of course not, i know you are a Liverpool fan Jayob.

I just wanted to know if Killwill had a similar nickname for Ashley '50 metres freestyle' Young or something similar.

    THIS

Regardless of how much contact etc, it was a potentially dangerous tackle and worthy of a yellow. Simples.

I didn't give the nickname and it was jsut a joke, but yeah I like to think I can look objectively at Utd players.
For example look over my posts yesterday and today when questioned on Rooney's antics with Colocinni. I said they over aggressive and unneccassary.

Fair enough, i dont think the Rooney incident where he was kicking out is the same though, i think its pure stupidity and id have no issue calling a pool player on that either.

But with simulation, its easy to point fingers at others and not your own. I personally think its just part of the game so i dont ever make comment on the subject unless i see some real two faced assessment going on.

I realise im in the minority of thinking its part of the game.

You are right, whether people like it or not it is part of the game. I will not and never have accepted simulation, I go blue in the face criticising the likes of Nani, Suarez, etc for it.

Anybody who comes in here to slate Lucas should just be laughed out of the thread!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,781 ✭✭✭corcaigh07

i hope kenny puts out some of the youths against chelsea, time to see what they are made of. id put out something like this:
    reina
    kelly-coates-wilson-robinson
    spearing-adam
    eccelston-henderson-maxi
    carroll

subs-doni, flanagan, aurelio, suso, sterling, lucas, coady

think kenny will much more towards 1st teamers though, he has taken the carling cup fairly seriously so far. think spearing, coates and carroll will be definite changes to the side...

Lol i refuse to believe anyone no matter how bias could slate Lucas with the form he is in at present. He has been outstanding this season.

Lads Lucas has been excellent for a long time now. He's our most consistent performer.

On another note, well done Glen Johnson. Another man who seems to get a lot of stick but he's been playing very well since he got back in the team. It's great to see we have 2 quality right backs in the team.

Just on the match yesterday. Disappointed not to get the win but I said before after the Swansea game that it was essential to get 4 points in the following 2 and that's exactly what we did. Now lets get another 3 against Fulham.

    :( Fuck

Watching Henderson reminds me of the early days of Lucas or Maxi. The hordes will call him shit because he isn't skinning defenders all game or hitting 40 yard diagonals but in time, they'll start to understand just what he brings to the team. They'll learn to appreciate his use of possession and his movement. Give the hordes time.

i was just thinking the same thing this morning and even posted it in the lucas thread!

The fact that Carroll and Hendo are both young there is still a lot of growing to come from both, they are easy targets for people to dump all problems on just like Lucas was few years back. I know people will bring in the price tags and that is a major sticking point but we had no leverage to getting good players, no Europe, everything was kinda topsy turvey, rebuilding process etc. We needed players and we had to pay for them. We paid over the odds but the players concerned were the ones most prized by their respective teams.

Onwards and upwards i say, CL this year and players will want to join us, and we have the money now to spend and we will get more after trip through Europe!

Right I was too hungover to contemplate posting yesterday about the game but here's my thoughts:

We were desperately unlucky that a brilliant Joe Hart denied us a victory that imo, we were fully deserving of.

Suarez vs. Kompany was the best duel I've seen all season and made the game for me.

Adam & Lucas - Immense again, we absolutely owned midfield from large chunks of the game - Lucas stopping Yaya Toure with a great tackle and putting him on his árse was one memorable highlight.

Henderson - I was very happy with his performance - not everything came off for him but he worked hard and kept the game at a nice pace with simple, one touch passing. Downing on the other wing, couldn't really fault him - he was helped out all day by Enrique but he took on his man quite a bit and one or two great crosses were begging for Carroll to be in the box. The only thing I'll say about him is that he needs to learn to shoot without wanting to break the back of the net - he drove a ball across goal when all was needed was a sidefoot to place it past Hart.

At the back - Agger, my favorite player to don a Liverpool shirt I think - he's not just the reason our defence has shored up but the team plays better when he's in it imo - the guys a great leader and I'm hoping we can keep him injury free - he's a huge asset to the club.

I'm looking at it as 2 points dropped, I don't care if City are unbeaten this season - we owned them yesterday and deserved more, unfortunately there's a huge difference between deserving something and taking what you deserve.

Hopefully we can push on from here and start a run to catch Spurs

Yeap agreed. The fact the league leaders and the outstanding team thus far this season came to Anfield and we are'nt happy with a draw says a lot. Some fantastic progress under the king this season and a world away from the utter dross served up under Hodgson. I genuinely think we can finish third this season.

December is make or break for us; we need to go on a wiining streak and hopefully we will in the next 6 league games.

Yes there was great player performances but for me most of the credit goes to Kenny & Clarke .

It was a expert demonstration and display of tactical awareness against probably one of the most dangerous squads in the league .

#1 They (with the formation) kept the ball out of the CM . It was always on the wings and kept the City CM very quiet . When it did come inside Lucas was a beast and Adam shut things out .

#2 The way we played two holding mid-fielders (one deep and one on Silvas hip) which kept Silva very quiet and hence took the heartbeat out of any City attack .
Silva kept having to drop deeper and deeper for possession which rendered him a much lesser threat .

It shows that the team now are on the same wave length as the manager and I think Kennys ethos will see us have an extremely positive attacking setup .

I love the way we attack as a unit ..its never just a push the ball up front and scrap for possession , its now that we attack in waves .
If the move breaks down we are quick to close down and restart no matter what half we are in .

Hopefully now we start putting more 3 points on the board and make this setup and victories a habit .

I fear no team now .

    Strawmanning.

Skrtel still dived and feigned an injury that he did not have. He fell down holding his face and rolled about holding his face. The replays showed clearly that his face was not touched.

He basically made sure that the other player got a second yellow and sent off.

People can try and say it would be a yellow anyway, but Skrtel's acting was disgusting and it pisses me off more because it was a Liverpool player doing it.

If people want to write it off as just being part of the game or chose to ignore Skrtel faking an injury, then they should remember that when a player from another team does the same against us and not give out about the other player.

Because it disgusts me more when I see a Liverpool player acting the coward and pretending to have an injury. I cannot stand watching any player doing it, but it feels worse when it is a LFC player doing it.

Anyone know where I can get this new Anthem Jacket, seems the official store is out of stock already. I would prefer to get it from a UK site/store as the US sizes are a bit 'dubious' plus it'll cost extra to ship.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The fact of the matter is that simulation, whether we like it or not, has become part of the game. Anyone who says otherwise is merely delluded.

Yea it was douchebag behavior from Martin but I reckon it was still a justifiable second yellow, I think I'd advocate the same where it roles reversed.
I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill here, I know that were it Eden Hazard you'd be making 101 excuses, there's a hint of dislike for Skrtel here at least.

It is part of the game now, but that does not mean it should not be condemned, and just because it is part of the game does not mean that people should not want to see it punished either on the spot or by using replays after the event.

I just feel that the more things are accepted as being the norm, the more and more it will happen. Football is becoming less and less of a contact sport with each decade that goes by, and I almost dread to think of what it will be like in ten years time or in twenty years time.
