getting ready to install sky in new house, and want to keep sky+ box and old sky box in utility room...each will. be going to seperate rooms. I have all my coaxial running to utility room. is it possible to run dish cables to back of skyboxes, and connect coaxial to the RF out and control the channels from the magic eye in the room? I thought this would be. straightforward enough but reading up online this morning has made me uncertain

Using coax RF out to each tv would not give you HD. It would need to be HDMI

Yeah, found that out but at the same time its not a big issue for now.

The old sky box is going to the living room so I can watch FTA channels. But in the future, im hoping to get a Saorview/Freeview combo box (e.g Triax ST HD 537) to get all the free irish and english channels. Will I have the same problem with getting channels like RTE2 HD etc using the same approach (running from the RF Out)

Using Rf coax from the box to the Tv will let you see RTÉ2 but not in HD, it will all be in poor analogue quality with mono sound which kinda defeats the whole idea. Cleverer people than me can advise you on how to run the equivalent of HDMI from the utility to each tv room. Better to spend a few extra quid now to get it right than pay a fortune re-doing it all later.

Crap. House is complete, so no chance of running hdmi cables from utility to rest of house
