No one and I mean NO ONE rocked a wife beater and a pair of Wranglers like Freddie! What a voice! I wish I had the chance to see him perform live.

I grew up listing to Queen and was devestated when the news broke of his death. RIP Freddie Mercury the king of queen and the greatest showman that ever lived.

    Ready Freddie

    Amazing song and performance.

He was in the final stages then, it took a huge effort for him to even be able to stand and sing but he did it. A beautiful farewell.

He was amazing. A young death is always a horrible thing, and he must have had so much he wanted to live and see. He died 20 years ago, at the age of 45, as a result of AIDS, and, every time I hear a Queen song, I think of that and the fact that AIDS is still so rife a disease.

So sad, but what a man to celebrate, and what a topic to keep to the forefront of your mind.

    Freddie is reborn....

He truly was gifted at his craft. Most of Queen's songs are still great today and haven't aged. That's the sign of true brilliance.

Yeah but the thread is about honouring the anniversary of his death isn't it? Not about your musical opinions.

When I was 6 or 7 I was always in the car with my mum going to see my Granddad in hospital in Kildare, and she'd just bought the Queen Greatest Hits 1,2 and 3. We listened to it non-stop for about a year and a half, really became the soundtrack of my childhood around then.

Incredible live obviously, as others have said Freddie was probably the greatest frontman ever, I just wish I could've seen them at their peak. But it's the recordings that have real resonance for me.

And I get how weird it is to like Queen, of all bands, like that. Considering they were pretty vacuous most of the time. I guess it's the baggage connected with them for me.

    Queen were useless.

Doesn't seem like 20 years, my favourite band. I went to the tribute concert in 92, I've got all their records and tons of singles and bootlegs. So many hidden gems on lots of their albums. The Night Comes Down, Tenement Funster, Dead On Time to name but a few.
