Should chimps be given human rights?

I think so, they are 99% the same as us. In some places, they wanna give Orangutans special rights, I applaud them and think we should go one step forward.

Yes, the chimps in Dublin zoo should be given the right to vote as well, sure they're 99% the same as us.

With rights usually come responsibilites. What responsibilities might a chimp have?

Chimps and all the great apes have more higher functioning than other species, but they are wild animals and should be treated as such while respecting their greater intelligence.

I think all animals have a right to be treated humanely and with respect for their intelligence. I don't know what further rights could be realistically awarded to chimps.

Dear hoorsmelt. please enlighten me where your 99% figure is from. Also note the adjective human before the noun rights answers the question. Human rights is for humans and since Orangutans are classed animals they do not get human rights.

Wait. The cosmetics industry has always been targeting females (only recently males with all this "look alert and put this on under your eyes" b*llocks). So women are ultimately at fault for animal testing seeing that it's products that are made for them!?
