Basically my g/f's apartment is wired for UPC. The last tenants had it. If she connected a Sky box to the tv point would she be able to get the FTA channels?

    UPC doesn't use a dish.

Doesn't it? I could have sworn we got a dish the last time we had UPC digital.

So can I presume then that connecting the Sky box to whatever the UPC outlet in the apartment is connected to won't work?

Probably for MMDS ('wireless cable'), not for satellite signals.

    That's right.

If you had MMDS UPC, ie. the square aerial on the roof you could disconnect the cable from it,put up a dish & connect the cable to that then plug the box into the other end, viola you have satellite tv.
I've done this for a friend of mine before-easily done as I didn't need to run any cable.
