    There was some major news( last Monday/Tuesday) about him that would be revealed shortly ( later in the week apparently) I think, that would have us talking about him..... unless I missed something, we are still waiting.

    who dropped this bombshell initially?

    Alberto Aquilani fully expects AC Milan to meet the £5.2million buyout fee Liverpool have included in his season-long loan deal.

    The Italian midfielder returned to his homeland for a second time over the summer, having spent the majority of last season with Juventus.

    He has struggled to make an impact at Anfield and clearly does not figure in Kenny Dalglish's plans.

    The Reds are prepared to let him leave, but only for the right price.

    Aquilani claims their demands prevented him from joining Juve on a permanent basis, as they were asking for €16m (£13.7m), but he is confident there will be no such problems this time around.

    Critical step

    "I did not expect to be bought by Juventus, the price set by Liverpool was too high," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

    "Juve was an opportunity and I have used it well.

    "It was a critical step in my career as after Liverpool I needed to play continuously. Maybe if I had not gone to Juventus I would not be at AC Milan."

    On the current agreement with Milan, he added: "There is a buyout fee set at €6 million [£5.2 million] and it is activated after 25 games.

    "I feel more assured. You can never say no to Milan. I have always had the hope of becoming a Rossoneri player."

    Henderson for £16-20m
    Aquilani for £5.2m

    Not neccessarily! They're in huge trouble if Van Persie gets injured. Their results have picked up the last few weeks, but that comes down to Van Persie.

    You could say the same about us if Suarezs gets a ban. :(

    And we're in big trouble if Suarez or Gerrard miss an extended run of games. Oh wait...

    Too true. Suarez and Reina are the only two players at the club that would have me really worrying about results if either were out for any substantial length of time.

    No other individual player being out would have quite as big an impact as either of those two imho.

    And we would not get all of the £5.2m either as Roma get 5% of any fee we sell Aquilani for.

    So a sneaky 260k goes to Roma.

    The english version of what Roma published on their official website:

    Four cash installments:

    * €5m upfront
    * €3m by 4th January 2010
    * €7m by June 30th 2010
    * €5m by June 30th 2011.

    Base transfer fee = €20m/£18m

    Further Add ons include:

    * €300k for every year Liverpool qualify for the CL from 2010/11 to 2014/15.

    * €250k every time the player reaches 35 appearancs; 70 appearances; 105 appeances and then 140 appearances.

    * €1m the first time Liverpool either wins the Premier League or Champions League by 30 June 2014.

    * 5% of any future transfer fee paid to Roma.

    So basically he cost us (not including wages) circa £18m and we may get a tad over £4.9m back for him once Roma get their 5%.

    To think that many of us were spitting fire when Juve were looking to pay around £10m for him during the summer just gone rather than the £13.7m Liverpool wanted.

    Surely Juve offered more than £5.2mil ???

    /look forget it my mood is bad enough .

    The Aquilani deal was a massive disaster for the club. One of the worst deals ever conducted by LFC.

    Shame we didn't cut losses earlier as he clearly wasn't fancied. Look at the 12 million we got for Robbie Keane, that was a great bit of business. Pity about the 18/20 paid of course..

    Im not sure its the best way to look at Aquilani in terms of what he cost us. Id be fairly confident a decision was reached pretty early in our new owners tenure (they did not pay for him) that he was in the out tray. And as a result, they probably looked at what was the most we could squeeze back on the player.

    We would have got a season long loan fee for last 2 seasons (last and this) + saved wages + fee from Milan (fingers crossed) which would reasonably tot up to 12-13mil all in, maybe more.

    Forget what was paid for him under the old regime, for me this transfer and the fee paid at the time defined perfectly the circus we used to have. Rafa im sure feels it was his biggest mistake in hindsight. It was a fking calamity from start to finish and i cant wait until all ties are cut.

    Good to see Shelvey playing well and scoring on a regular basis for Blackpool. I think this loan move will do him the world of good. Would like to see him back around Xmas if we can't get Stevie fixed and back playing. Here's a short clip of his goal today. Okay it's not the goal of the season but he's in among the goals and thats good to see.

    I think his loan move is only until December anyway!! He really looks a great prospect!

    I expect he'll get a loan with a Prem Club, maybe a promoted side unless it really looks like Gerrard is crooked.

    we cut our losses excellently with keane, realised he didn't fit/wasn't up to it and got rid before his value dwindled completely, spurs paid 12 for him and got sfa back

    we may soon face similar decisions with carroll/henderson/downing i.e. if they have an average season, do we accept a lowish offer for them or hope they come good and risk their value going down even further

    Kenny will stand by those lads i think, whether that will prove a wise policy, only time will tell but i have my doubts

    The fact is, as a club, we have done terrible business for a number of seasons on the trot now. When you look at the likes of Riera, Keane, Aquilani and Dossena - none of whom are still at the club. Meanwhile we have sold Mascherano, Alonso and Torres without properly replacing any of them and we have bought Carroll, Henderson and Downing for big money, none of which look like being good buys thus far. When you add the fact that we let Meireles go to a rival after a great first season, a pretty picture it does not make.

    Thank feck for Suarez and Enrique.

    Obviously biased as a 'pool fan but I'd imagine teams like Wigan & Blackburn are crying out for a player like him

    Delighted to see him doing so well with Blackpool

    I watched Moneyball tonight. The guy that plays John Henry is the spit of him!

    It's a cracking movie btw.

    if Suarez is found guilty what could the punishment be? I'm assuming some sort of ban but I have no idea what length it would be? Anybody know?
