Insuring car but not registered owner

Can I insure a car that is registered to my partner? She would be a named driver on the policy. Would they require us to reverse the order of insured ie. her to be the main driver as she is the owner?

Yes, that is the usual requirement as you have no "insurable interest" in the car.

Even if its clear I just changed ownership as part of asset protection?

Ring the broker / insurance company.

Various companies have slightly different policies re this sort of stuff.

Many insurance companies require car to be registered in your or your spouse/partner name, while some other require it to be registered in your name.

Just ring them and check. If they don't allow it, find different insurer.

In that case surely it would look better if the policy was in her name.
