Could have been worse. Brad Smith is the the England lb yeah? Or is he the Aussie? I always get mixed up with him and Tom King. I pretty sure he got a good roasting at the u17 WC anyhow. Raheem has barely been in the game but did well for the goal. Adorjan has barely touched the ball.

We are still creating chances like we did in the home leg though, just need to finish them. Sporting playing very well at times.

I think Brad Smith is an aussie but he represents England at underage level.

Sporting look so calm in possession. I would doubt there are too many foreigners in their ranks at youth level either, which makes it all the more impressive. English sides need to buy foreign even to be a force at this level.

I read somewhere that this isn't even a good era for Sporting at underage level, the last couple of years has been quite unproductive for them, which put it in context really.

The central defender Edgar looks a real prospect, so comfortable on the ball for a young central defender. and you cannot beat having great pace as a central defender, allows you a second bite of the cherry if you get into trouble.

EDIT; game over, what a finish 3-1 Sporting

These games will provide a real footballing education for our lads, Will do them the world of good

    another Hendo-hater?

Have you seen him play as CM this season? Did very well when he came on there against United, and is running the England u21's from there.

Are you are basing your whole opinion of him playing out of position?

I'm using him as an example of the players we have to provide for us after Suarez and Gerrard. None of which i would put into a "class" bracket. I think Henderson has a bright future but we need players for the here and now. The FA are going to make an example of Suarez and we're gonna be fcked.

What makes you think that? Terry admitted saying the words "black cnut" but in the context of defending himself, IMO that's a suspect defense.

IMO their both as guilty as sin, its in their character.

5-1 Lisbon team very impressive. Only got to watch the last 20 mins. Liverpool keeper needs some work on his positioning/angles, has a few time's looked out of position.

Spot on i'd say you are there about Suarez

Less well publicised is Suarez's charity work which took up much of his spare time in South Africa.
“I care about social inequality,” he said. “Whenever I can I love being active part of organisations that promote solidarity projects.
“Football has got this tremendous power of joining people, without any skin, religion and social discrimination.”

Coupled with alleged racial abuse and his unsavory onfield antics hes hardly a saint.

Maybe you are a bit slow?

    Alleged racist abuse it is.

The youtube clip has nothing to do with racism.

A saint he may not be but neither am I and i'm no racist.

That Sporting side is as good as any side I have ever watched at youth level. Some of the football they played tonight was breathtaking and to see them still working so hard when they lost the ball at 4-1 up was incredible.

    Opr

Lads save ut for the racism thread. I'm just concerned about the possible implications this will have on our season.

The youtube clip is simply to illustrate his character on the pitch.

He bit another player and this is his excuse"Normally I’m calm,” Suarez said. “But I was a little tired, I’d done a lot of travelling.”

I think hes more than capable of racially abusing Evra.He could of had a bad day, or done some travelling.

I suppose it shows how much work still has to be done at academy level to come up to Sportings level, they do have one of the best in Europe.

The other English sides seem to be doing ok. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the later stages.

Liverpool are trying to negotiate a cut-price January deal for Lyon’s Aly Cissokho.

Versatile Cissokho, a left back who can also operate in midfield, is wanted by both the Reds and Newcastle, but he is believed to want a move to Anfield.

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has admitted the club will look for “some solutions”, and it is believed they need to balance the books.

That means Liverpool may be able to drive a hard bargain at around £6million for the 24-year-old, as their director of football Damien Comolli has good links with Lyon.

Cissokho? That one makes no sense so i wouldnt be surprised if it's true.

We have Johnson, Kelly, Flanagan and Carra if need be in right back.

We have Enrique, Aurellio, Robinson and Agger in right back.

While it isn't an urgent need, if a quality player is available in that position and at a reasonable price, it is pretty logical to persue him given Aurellio's susceptibility to injury.

Also, Enrique is playing extremely well and is likely to get an international call up soon.. If Real or Barca come knocking, it will be hard to keep him.

If (and its a big if) the worst happens play Bellamy and Kuyt (hell if Carroll may get into a groove if he gets enough games).

    Don't sweat it.

Hummels, Hazard, and Henrikson are arriving in January along with Sissoko, Shaqiri, and Subotic.:D

Or we could just potentially lose our main attacking threat in Suarez

I do think that if he does get found guilty and banned, that the club will move for a big player or two in January, possibly from the list of targets for next summer.

He was one of the players I really wanted us to sign last summer, but the signing (and performances) of Enrique soon made me forget about him. Would be really surprised if he was a target despite his ability and potential.

The quote from the Lyon president is from the summer though when he gave a number of interviews about needing to find solutions to the financial problems at Lyon.

Just looking at the PL fixtures Luis might miss if given a 6 match ban....

    City (H)
    Fulham (A)
    QPR (H)
    Villa (A)
    Wigan (A)
    Blackburn (H)

    10 match ban.... add

    Newcastle (H)
    City (A)
    Stoke (H)
    Bolton (A)

stupid question but do Carling / FA cup games count?

Whether he clears his name or not (which i think he will), his name will still be tarred with this issue, and will immediately be thought of as something he isn't. And that is exactly what Ferguson wants.
