Reducing limit on maxed out credit card?

Just a quick question.

I have an MBNA credit card that is always maxed out, I always pay the min charge of €60 a month but always seem to take out the €20 left on it stupidly.
I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me if I can ring MBNA up and ask them to reduced the limit from €2500 to say €1500 and keep paying it off? Would there be any massive charges?

I did have an AIB credit card last year and it was maxed at €500, I rang them up to get the closing balance and they closed it for me with a small charge on it, but there was no problems or anything like that in doing this.

Would MBNA do this for me if I lowered the limit or would it be a case of just closing the card. I never miss any payments with them since I got the card.

I cant get another credit card/loan to transfer the balance over so thats out of the question with any other places. Just want to get the card limit down to €1000 or something and just have it for emergencies (I was very stupid with it years ago, a lot older now).

I know its not a lot and a lot of people are in a lot worse situations but just want rid of it as soon as I can, but finding it hard as I am on a very low wage, and its following me around like a bad smell, eek.
