Haven't myself, are we linked with him?

    Yup.

Supposed to be our main target in January.

    That's mad.

A player is currently playing in the Spanish U21's match that's being broadcast & people on various message boards are talking about how good he looks & you happen to have ITK gossip about how he's our number 1 target in Jan.

    Interesting co-incidence.

It's cute watching you pretend to be 'ITK'

It's as cute as watching you lying or making a complete bellend of yourself in that racism thread.

I've repeatedly said I'm not "ITK". And I hate that term anyway.

    I know people who are.

Better keep him away from Henderson so ;)

We've been linked with Muniain every transfer window for the last 2/3 years I'd say. Nothing new at all there.

If you have friends who are 'iTK's who tell you stuff they know, doesnt that make you an 'ItK' also by extension? Maybe not a fully bread 'ITk' but you are definitely part of the 'iTK' family, like a nephew or cousin or something.

On another note, i hate international weeks!!

He's been linked with most top clubs at one stage & seems like a hell of a player.

by the way, if any more proof is needed that Henderson is:

    1) a great prospect; and
    2) should ALWAYS play in the middle...

then watch last night's u-21 game.

    case closed IMO.

not that he was incredible, but he looks 20 times more assured and comfortable.

And that's all with the pressure of knowing everybody on this thread is going to hear his big news/secret during the week.

He's a middle man - look at him in a Liverpool shirt vs. Hull - I know it was a preseason friendly but when in the middle, he ran things. Put him on the wing he's nowhere near asa effective

What exactly was Hendersons role last night in the game? How did England set up, was it a 4-4-2 ? Didn't see the game myself.

Henderson will play in the middle in time. Surely that's why he was bought. He's not a winger. Plus he's only 21. Patience is key.

Maybe in the cup game at Chelsea, try him in the middle? A good game there and maybe a league game after that.

With the the way some fans are these days, a poor performance or two by Henderson in the middle and they'd be saying he's finished :o

He looked decent and comfortable there, much more so that any game he has had in a Liverpool shirt, but to say he looks a great prospect based on his performance in that game is a tad hyperbolic.

If you are talking about Henderson being a great prospect, then he has to be measured against other players in his age group that are regarded as great prospects, and quite frankly he pales alongside the likes of Yann M'Vila (same age), Mat Hummels ( a year older), Xherdan Shaqiri ( a year younger). Eden Hazard (a year younger), Aleksandar Dragovic (a year younger), Stevan Jovetic ( a year older), Markus Henriksen (two years younger), Christain Eriksen (two years younger) etc. Now those players and many like them don't all play in the same position as Henderson, but all of them would be examples of great young prospects in my eyes. All young, all established in their club's first team, most are full internationals, and most importantly all of them are consistently putting in good performances at first team level for quite some time.

Henderson may well go on to be a good player, and I hope he does as a pretty decent sized financial gamble has been made on him, but I see nothing about him that suggests that he is a great prospect let alone being anywhere near the same level as many of the young players that are regarded as the top young prospects around Europe.

    it was 4-2-3-1.

Henderson played the quarterback role, like he did in that Hull game in preseason.

oh, and Martin Kelly was eye-catching again too, and got a goal...again.

but sure, that's normal fare at this stage :p

ok, i'm playing fast and loose with the word "great" maybe, but it's all semantics.

at the end of the day, he looks very comfortable in the centre, and in his club career, to date, has never been given an run there and been told..."you're a CM and that's it".

i'd be confident that once he is, he'll prove to be at least very good in the role.

High expectations indeed. Have seen nothing from him in any shirt that suggests he is on the cusp of developing into at least a very good player.

Quality normally stands out in a young player, things like composure, first touch, awareness all stand out even when a player is out of position. Most of the names on the list I made have been played in more than one position and all managed to look like they have that bit extra about them. I just have not seen anything to that level from Henderson.

Now that is not to say that I think he cannot become a good player as I think he has the tools to do that at some point, but I just don't think the high quality player that some think he can become is within him, and I certainly don't think he has shown the same kind of signs of being a future very good or top class player in the manner that those who are regarded as top prospects have to date.

I think that his nationality has aided his hype greatly and that if he was a young French, Spanish, or German player playing outside of England that we probably would never have seen the same level of hype about his abilities. I also think that as much as his nationality has aided the hype about him, it is also a hindrance in that I feel no nation is as good at shining sh1t and proclaiming it to be a gem as England is. That is not to say that Henderson is sh1t, but I do feel that his abilities have been amplified by the English media/pundits to the point that there are unfair expectations in place that may be too much great for the player to reach.

so do you think Kenny and Comolli were duped?

Ah c'mon now Kess we all know if he was Belgian you'd be all over the Hendo :pac:

I do think he has the ability to be a very, very good player. Not a world beater by any means, but if he's going to be a good CM we need to play him in the CM role....it's one of the reasons I want to see a 4-3-3, Carroll being the other reason.

    ^^this^^

Hendo is gonna be a real asset if nurtured properly in his strongest position , but the "english tax" has definitely been applied in the emergency form .

I don't think they were duped in the sense that they were sold a ringer, but I do think we paid well over the odds thanks to the player's nationality, far more so than we would have for a foreign player of similar age and ability.

I just don't see Henderson turning into the top class midfielder that some media outlets and pundits claim he is on the cusp of becoming. I think that he may become a decent midfielder if he develops well, but something about him screams above average rather than very good or better. I'm not trying to slam him or start a slag off Henderson run of posts because I don't think that he is a poor player in terms of skill levels and technical ability, I just differ with some on here (and in the media) in terms of what I think is a great prospect and in how a great prospect stands out in comparison to a prospect who looks more like he will become a solid player rather than an outstanding one, imho of course.

If he were Belgian/French/German with the same track record in terms of performances to date to his name, then I reckon I would be laughed out of it for suggesting him as a great prospect costing £16m+.:D
