I think it is a beautiful ceremony, it is nice to see representatives of all faiths and none. I agree the inclusion of the Humanist representative was a nice touch by Michael D.

Thank god it's not Sean Gallagher up there.

I quake at the thought of what the ceremony would look like, a quango perhaps?

We were just saying how long winded it was! Give him his house keys and let him get inside! :D

no chance of just a house party for Michael D. Shut off the cameras and capture the results in the morning.

Maybe even a Mary Mcaleese walk of shame :p

He will have to wrap it up in time for the one o'clock news anyway.

This is the poem chosen by Higgins, that was sung earlier,
    Beannacht
    ("Blessing")
    On the day when
    the weight deadens
    on your shoulders
    and you stumble,
    may the clay dance
    to balance you.
    And when your eyes
    freeze behind
    the grey window
    and the ghost of loss
    gets in to you,
    may a flock of colours,
    indigo, red, green,
    and azure blue
    come to awaken in you
    a meadow of delight.
    When the canvas frays
    in the currach of thought
    and a stain of ocean
    blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
    a path of yellow moonlight
    to bring you safely home.
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
    And so may a slow
    wind work these words
    of love around you,
    an invisible cloak
    to mind your life.

    ~ John O'Donohue ~

I wonder did Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese agree on a red and black dress code in advance of the ceremony

    They are indeed.

I must admit I'm a little biased, my godmother was advisor to Mary Robinson, both wonderful women.

It's a lovely ceremony, I wish him and Sabina well. Somehow he seems to be just the right man for the job. At least we can be proud of our presidents, whatever else is happening in the country.

Pity the weather is brutal for this, for a fella with a bad knee he is moving fairly lively,he looks the part, right man got the job

We do this very well, makes me proud to be Irish. His office is off to a good start, gives hope that things will come good, and we need hope more than anything else at the moment.

Some if the crowd keep sticking cameras in his face  seems a bit disrespectful

What car is he using? I'd heard he wasn't going to use the official Rolls-Royce but use instead Dev's Dodge from the museum in Ennis. Any one watching that can let me know?

Best of luck to him, I'm very happy with his support for the arts, he's like a walking RTE, but with credibility.

Enda Kenny saying in his speech how great and proud it is to be Irish and he giving our wealth away to foreign unguaranteed bond-holders. The cheek of him. He should ask the ordinary people in the street if they think its great to be Irish when they are paying for the shambles left by politicians of all hues.

I think you'll find it was his predecessors who were responsible for that.
