On his debut for City, Nasri got two assists. In his 7 games played, he has 6 assists and a goal to his name. The only reason i can see why he's not starting is because of Silva, Milner, Johnson.

It's hard to stand out in a team like City when you have the quality they have. City's bench against QPR would strengthen any team

The trick with ateam liek City is keeping all of the superstars happy. Look what happened when they had Santa Claus, Adebayor and Bellamy all wanting out at the same time. I must say though Mancini is doing a fantastic job keeping the egos in check thus far. I thought the Tevez incident would have been the beginning of big trouble for them but Mancini handled it superbly

Why are we always linked with players in positions we are well covered for? We dont need a midfielder, we need a striker. Someone who, unlike Chamakh, knows what the goal looks like. If RVP misses any games, where are the goals going to come from?

Whatever has happened to Chamakh? He looked to be a great signing for us the first few months last year, but then his form seemed to drop off completely when he picked up an injury. I really rate him but I think he's a confidence player and with not getting a good run in the team I can't really see him regaining his old form unfortunately :(

I'd love us to have a cheeky bid for Di Natalie in Jan, he wouldnt cost too much and I think he still has a good 2 years left in him, quality little player.

Who are the Netherlands playing during the international break? Is it 1 or 2 games they have?

Switzerland and Germany. Just make sure Djourou and Mert don't squash him!

Their all about man utd & l'pool from what i can see, that's the only time they have prem. soccer sunday when either one of them two are playing. Maybe there's another reason but i haven't heard it

And how long have you been watching RTE coverage of soccer ?
man u could be playing an u12 team and they would show it in preference to other teams.
    ...
It was a ridiculous thing to say. I was surprised at Cunningham, I know he's not the most insightful pundit but I never knew him to make such uninformed sweeping statements. The way he phrased it, it was as if he didn't know we'd been missing 2 of those 3 all season.

I think he does have a point although he made a balls of stating it.

If RVP gets injured who leads the line ?
There is no striker at the club anywhere near his quality and in tight games where the goals come from without him is worrying.
Look at the rest of the entire attack and no one is as lethal as him.
Wallcott is more miss than hit, Gervinho has flashes and still settling in anyway, Chamakh hasn't an idea where the goal now is, now sure what is happening with Park.

For all the posters claiming us doomsayers have been proven wrong and we are on for automatic CL qualification, if you take RVP out of the mix there probably might not have been three league wins (Sunderland, Stoke and Chelsea) and one win (Udinese) and one draw (Dortmund) in Europe.
To me that is very worrying that the team is so reliant on one guy who historically has been injury prone.
I just hope to feck he lasts and nothing happens to him.

Back to Cunninghams point IMHO it is noticable how better the center of defense looks with Vermaelen.
    He adds solidity in there.

Wilshere's ability in midfield is also missed.

I am not allowed discuss …

Off course they are/would be missed, but its a redicilous comment and stating the bleedin obvious.

Take Rooney, Vidic and Evra out of the United team or Lampard, Mata and Terry out of the Chelsea team and how would they both look? The only one of the top teams that could afford to lose their three best players and it not completely derail them is Man City, but hey give Wenger €200m and limited funds for wages and Im sure we could bolster our squad.

    I actually bet he wouldn't.
He would go out and buy about 50 15 or 16 year olds with great potential. :D

Any chance of us telling Holland that van Persie is injured so cant play for them but he then makes a miracle recovery for our next league game? :D

I think the majority of his injuries have occured on International duty. :(

what is that supposed to mean?

I watch it as least as possible actually. I sometimes watch the arsenal highlights on PSS to see what the pundits have to say and the odd CL night to hear what their going on about - comedy gold some nights
    their being
Bill - knows less about football than my mother
gilles - a dinosaur in football terms
    dunphy - needs no explaination

football first on sky for the win
    then MOTD

did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Firstly: Sky, RTE, MOTD and pretty much every soccer coverage is set up to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I always know when my ma's been watching Soccer Saturday cause she tries to talk about football with me and basically spouts the same ****. It's designed to make sense to people that don't really know a lot about the game. If you're reading soccer news and posting regularly on boards, then chances are that you know as much as the pundits do and you're going to learn nothing new. Screw the rest and just watch the match itself ftw.

Secondly: Pundits are by their nature cliched. Eamonn Dunphy, Geroge Hook and Kenny Cunningham are basically all the same person. The only difference is that Cunningham isn't quite as good at it yet.

Thirdly: Anyone think that our team spirit might be better now Fabregas and Nasri are gone? is it because they're gone or is it after the 8-2 pasting at OT?

Fourthly: Don't really buy the stuff about City 'finding out' Nasri's not that great. He's actually been more prolific for City than he was for us but playing him means dropping someone like Ageuro or Bal, or you play him through the middle which means dropping Silva. Tbh I think he was purchased to provide cover, rotation options and the all important replacement for Silva should he get injured.

Didn't take city long to realise we f*cked them over with that one and drop him.

But for him though, yeah city will win stuff, but it doesn't count if all your team mates have to win it all for you.

A win means so much to the arsenal lads after their tough time and all the fans are feeding off their team spirit. And nasri making a nice arse groove in their sideline recliners makes it all the better. Ok city are top but no thanks to him.

I actually thought id be the other way around with cesc on the bench and nasri playing. How happy i am to be wrong.

    Wat.

    Nasri found out?

He's still world class. This time, he's playing in a team with serious competition for places.

He's no leader though, which is why Arsenal selling him to City is best for everyone concerned.

I think once we lost the CC final Nasri got disillusioned with us. Never really hit the same heights in an Arsenal shirt after that. I know they are superb players but I'm glad Cesc and Nasri are one. When players want out you'll never get 100% out of them so best to cash in while you can.

    I agree.

But they're still world class however.

In other news, stuff thats bothering me at the moment include Tottenham. They won't drop ppoints.

First and second is City and Utd. Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and ourselves are battling for third and fourth. 4 into 2 won't go.

My post was clearly just a rant at nasri, but they were definitely fúcked over at the price they paid for him (pocket change to them but still stupid money).

I just think city disillusion players. Nasri, while good enough to get into any PL team, mustve thought he was the shít if big spenders like city are after him and that he'll be centre midfield in the most amazing superstar team ever, and they are willing to fork out bazillions to get him. In reality he was bought to sit on the bench and provide cover, probably not how he imagined life at city.

While the best move for us was him going to city (the one PL team that probably wouldnt play him) the best move for him career wise wouldve been utd.

He was bought to be part of a squad that is on the up and up. City needed quality in depth juggling the CL, PL and the two cup's. And that's what they got in Nasri...quality

Liverpool dont look good enough to me, they look like a bunch of lads who have never played together before. They could end up getting their house in order and being involved but right now I dont think they feature. Newcastle are more likely for me and even then I dont expect them to stick around after Christmas. Three in to two for me but if Chelsea keep dropping points they could eliminate themselves from the running by Christmas!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,334 ✭✭✭the untitled user

You can't write off Liverpool yet. Their squad might lack the technical ability to break teams down, but all it could take is for Suarez to up his conversion ratio and they'll start winning again.

Be surprised if Newcastle can maintain this form over the course of the season, they lack depth compared to the others and the cup season is far away from us yet. A few good buys in the transfer window could keep them there abouts, but the momentum will start to flag once they start playing 2 games a week like the rest of the CL contenders are already.

I suspect it'll end up a 3 way race for the last 2 CL spots, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. November sees a good few of the current top 6 playing each other though so it'll be a great opportunity for us to claw back up the table.

Spurs are a Ledley King injury away from a serious speed bump to their campaign. Equally, we are an RVP injury away from a similar speed bump to ours.
