RTE dictates which TG4 programmes are made and the budgets people have to make them with and the same production companies make programmes for both TG4 and RTE.... so the people playing the two stations off each other are a bit off the mark.

Basically, praising TG4 is praising RTE and using TG4 as a stick to beat RTE with is just silly.

    They're both shi*e anyway :D

The functions and duties of TG4 (Teilifís na Gaeilge) are set out in the Broadcasting Act 2009. The entity has a twelve member board, currently chaired by Peter Quinn, former GAA President. TG4 receives a programme supply of 365 hours of Irish language programming annually from RTÉ, at no cost to TG4, as specified in the Broadcasting Act 2009.

The Government will provide current funding of €32.25m to TG4 for 2011. TG4 also derives income from selling commercial air-time and programme sponsorship.
The channel's schedule - and its news service in particular - ensures a space for the non-centrist perspective and for emerging talent.

TG4 are independent of RTE- You should check your facts.

I'd rather be poked in the eye with a fork than watch Baz.

Although I'd rather be tickled with a feather by the TG4 girls instead :pac:

Daithi O sea is hot hot hot hot.
He started out in TG4 but don't if he's still there.

There used to be another presenter and I think his first name is padraig. I'm wrecking my brains out trying to figure out who is is. But he is hot.

    can't stand that guy

    What a lovely post.

He is allowed have his preferences. IMO Ireland has a huge number of really beautiful women. The girl I want to settle down with is most likely to be Irish. The type of person I'm most attracted to has a very Irish look. The TG4 girls are typical of that look.

Also this is not due to lacking an appreciation of foreign girls. I've been behind the iron curtain so to speak. I just like Irish girls.

Strange. I know plenty of good looking Irish women - the few blokes out there who piss themselves to put down Irish women don't change that fact.
Lots of great looking women in Scandinavia but it doesn't negate the fact that lots of women in Ireland or any country look well. Or that personal tastes vary.

TG4 are independent of RTE- You should check your facts.

You should go beyond the surface (and wikipedia). They are independent in the same way the judiciary in Ireland is independent: i.e. on a wink, wink, nudge, nudge, and a "how's yer uncle keeping?" basis.

I know this as I have helped people pitch programs that were due to be shown on TG4... those pitches were being prepared for meetings with RTE who --it was hoped-- would approve those budgets proposals, which they did.

The same production companies make programs for both.

The flow of presenters from one to the other is pretty obvious. They are to all intents and purposes one and the same.

They are independent in the same way that the Irish language is central to the day-to-day cultural life of the Irish people: i.e., not at all.

But sure keep telling yourself that they're independent.. If people can convince themselves that the Irish people need a multi-million government-funded Irish-language TV station when the country is on the brink of financial apocalypse, you can do anything. Anything! :pac:

But all this is admittedly a bit OT.

Lads, you're really demeaning yourselves drooling over TV sprites like that. (To say nothing of demeaning the women too, some of whom may actually be competent journalists  )

I've dated a couple of TV presenters in me time --even a tg4 one (no I am not saying which one)-- and I'm not going to comment on their looks as there are always better looking women in less obvious places than on TV. Also, TV suits certain kinds of faces better than others (some of which look even better in reality.. and others which look much worse in reality). Go figure. It's a really fascinating topic which I firmly beli- *yawns* Sorry, I fell asleep there.

Looks aside, the thing I have noticed about tv presenters is, most of them would bore the arse off ya. Nice girls and mostly harmless but a bit stuffy and image conscious.

It kinda makes sense when you think about it: if these women were really rock and roll and feisty and wild they couldn't be relied on to produce the kind of safe, consistent programming that will appeal to most TV audiences (not just Irish ones, not just rural ones.. TV audiences in general are pretty conservative in terms of what is regarded as acceptable behaviour).

The TV presenters I have met seem to embody a weird mix of desperate attention-seeking and having a stick up their ar*e at the same time... perhaps a career in porn would be more suitable for most of them? :D

And with that I will say no more about the lovely wee girls of TG4. For I have too much to say... :D

You must be a dream to spend time with.

    Penile dysfunction?

No harm done, with that attitude you won't need it.

They really need to advertise this more. Just have an add with all their female presenters wearing revealing clothes doing random sexy crap and just end with their old tag line "suil eile"]

Everyone will watch it then and in twenty years Irish will be the spoken tounge again :D
