Member of my clann has just purchased an 08 Focus - 1.8 tcdi, nice car all round.

Had a browse through the user manuals but could not find anything to help me activate the bluetooth connectivity to allow it to connect with the mobile phone. Switched on the Btooth on the phone, searched for paired devices but no joy.

Is there something totally obvious I'm not doing? Or have I missed a simple instruction in the user manuals that would tell me what i need. From my brief inspection of the audio system its a the single CD Sony Audio unit.

Are you sure there is Bluetooth fitted on the car? Wasn't standard on all Focus's in 2008. If it has Alloys and A/C there is a good chance it has Bluetooth, if those bits are missing, then it probably doesn't.

If it is fitted, there is a small button on the top of the radio controls to activate the voice recognition system. Press the button, get caught in circular menu's and end up having an argument with the lady in the car because she can't understand even my perfect, Queens English.

Yea the Focus does have alloys and AC (Originally an English Car).

I detect from your post you had some fun with the voice commands...:D

Just a bit, but not as bad as with an Octavia a couple of years ago, couldn't figure out how to shut that off and ended up in a loop most of the way home.

Do you have the button on top of the radio controls for the voice commands? Seem to remember its:
    Phone
    Pair
Then follow the instructions from there.

Not sorted - R.O.R.'s post above referred to a 'voice' button located on the lever where the radio controls are. There ain't one there though in this model therefore no pre-installed bluetooth.

Why put the phone buttons on the dash when its not there??

The button is part of the standard stereo in the car. Bluetooth was an optional extra back then so it doesn't make financial sense to be fitting different models of stereos depending on whether it had bluetooth or not.
