Although TBH I could envisage at some future time there being advantages in militarily neutral(-ish) EU countries maintaining embassies in places like Iran even if only for the sake of other EU citizens ?

I see the logic in that but then again something illogical can happen like the attack on Danish embassies because some Dane created a satirical cartoon.

this government is a cowardly joke. so when is the british embassy getting closed down?

its easy for enda and the rest of the irish conservative party to stand up to the vatican when they know everyone is behind them, internationally too. but when being faced with the british government, the cowardly british apologists (fine gael) roll over, just as fianna fail did. its like acting hard with all your mates behind you, not so tough on your own. where was endas scathing verbal attacks on the british government, just as happened on the church? no instead, he licks their arse.

i dont condone any of the abuse that went over here throughout the decades which involved the church, but the hypocrisy is a joke. look what the brits did, but the attitude is the past is the past. yet, when it comes to the church and vatican wheres all the past is the past rubbish?

Am I the only one that thinks this is exactly what the government should be doing, ignoring this topic even, carrying out the wishes of the people?

All political/secular considerations aside maintaining embassies in the Vatican AND Rome makes about as much sense as having seperate embassies in East and West Berlin 22 years after the wall came down.

I agree, but apparently the Vatican won't allow an embassy in Rome that is accredited to Italy to also be accredited to itself - it has to be an embassy in a third country. Talk about being awkward and arrogant, it'd be like Ireland refusing a country to accredit their embassy in London to Ireland (many countries do this).

So Kim il sungs little stalinist progedy closed down Irelands embassy to the Vatican opened in 1929.I wonder did the little ex sticky ex provo ex democratic left militant come off in his pants when he signed it.Of course the leader of the "CHRISTIAN DEMOCRATIC" party the bould Enda did nothing about it.
The clowns on here who of course slate the church whnever they get a chance but run into Mothers arms when someone needs to be buried are thrilled but most of them havent a brain bewtween them.It surely is time the Catholics of Ireland at long last stood up on an issue and make these littel lefties and their toads pay

Aw... Don't be upset at people attacking the church for enabling child abuse. You've got to be fair to them - it's legitimate cause for anger.
Not very christian of you to be all shouty and insulting like that is it? :(

You're doing wonders for your "Cause".... :pac: Some of these responses are becoming nonsensical yet highly entertaining at the same time.

The church made serious errors no doubt but did massive good work for this country that clowns like you dont want to see.Not that you or your like would ever do anything to help anyone only criticize.where was the state to protect children. Were more kids abused under church or state control?.How beautifully were children treated in the athiestic states?
Spare me the bull**** the Church did alot more good in this country than any other institution and its about time IRISH CATHOLICS CAME OUT AND TALKED ABOUT IT and stop letting Kim il sungs little progedy run the roost

IRISH CATHOLICS ARE FREE TO TALK ABOUT IT. Weirdly, no one went around cutting their throats so they couldn't speak, or breaking their fingers so they couldn't go on weird rants online.

Oh personal abuse? Not very Christian either. Lol at religious people who are full of hate. :D
How do you know I wouldn't help anyone? Oh yeah, you don't.
You can go on about atheist states' treatment of children and inaction of the state here (pathetic argument seeing as it was closely linked to the church, except the church had more power) but it doesn't change anything - the catholic church enabled child abuse and you won't condemn it.
You're also assuming I don't appreciate the good which clergy did, but... wrong again. Attacking the institution (deservedly so) is not the same as attacking individual clergy members on the ground.
It might make you feel intelligent to let everyone know you know the name of the north Korean leader, but comparing people who aren't as right-wing as you, to him just looks hysterically stupid.

I think Ireland should close it for the same reason. Britain are our closest neighbours, and not just geographically.

Actually we should keep it open for when the British and Americans do finally go to war with Iran it will give us a way to sneak there citizens and such out, just like what happened in the Canadian Embassy in 1979.

You're claiming that we're becoming a Stalinist state. You make out that people are liberal nuts yet you're the person who is using abusive language, claiming that all that do not agree with you are "littel lefties and their toads". Most Catholic's in Ireland, couldn't care less about the embassy closing. It's not a great loss for the nation.

And the organisation that you state did plenty for Ireland over the decades also covered up tons of abuse cases that will haunt our nation. And going by their behaviour, they will continue to lie to us. And realistically, we're not the devout Catholic nation that we used to be.... In fact, the scandal that surrounds has driven plenty of Irish people away from the church.

    Regards,
    Atheist Liberal Toad (Apparently anyway..)

Atheism was succesfull in closing down Christianity in the Soviet Union for a while during Stalin's reign of terror, but Christianity won over in the end.
I don't see the relevance either. Do you think atheism = state like the Soviet Union?
Islam is widely practised in the former USSR too.
