I've listened to nothing but Bedhead, The New Year, Codeine and Low this week and I'm afraid if I put on something played at a "normal" pace my head will explode.

So, instead I'm going to celebrate the worst genre name ever "Slowcore"

Does anyone listen to bands of this ilk and can they recommend some, or just slow songs with lots of space?

Hey,
I'm not sure if it's Slowcore, but you might like this guy, Sleeping States.
I saw him (with a friend accompanying him) supporting Great Lake Swimmers about a year and a half ago, and I would have happily left after seeing him. I love this song...

I think slowcore and post-rock share a lot of characteristics, so maybe have a listen to these guys from Finland, not sure what genre they are as they include some electronic elements too

I love Codeine, their music is what being in your early 20's and the real world hitting you in the face sounds like. Bedhead are good but I could never seem to like them as much as other "slowcore" bands.

Red House Painters are probably my favourite. This song is one of the most depressing songs ever recorded.

Carissa's Wierd are probably not as slow as other bands but their songs have the same sad and depressing mindset.

Seam are another great band and have a wonderful melancholic sound and are probably a bit heavier than other slowcore bands.

Lanterns on the Lake are a band I've been really enjoying lately, they released their debut album in September and it has a bit of a slowcore feel to it.

Gravenhurst (from Bristol) are fairly slowcore, I reckon. Perhaps on a par with Red House Painters for extreme miserablism!
