Pedal threads in crank arms / X-tools from Chain Reaction

Rather than start yet another cyclist-meets-hartebeest thread ...

I have an old second-hand STX-RC crank which should be working fine aside from the right crank arm pedal threads being slightly stripped/cross-threaded by previous owner. On inspection, I'm pretty sure that the damage to the threads can be repaired with a thread chaser and I see that Park make a set of taps (left and right-threaded) specifically for this job (sold by Chain Reaction for €40).

I'm usually willing to spend decent money on reliable tools but this is a bike that I don't want to be spending too much money on and I'm always very careful when installing/removing pedals so I couldn't see myself needing to use this tool in the future - unless it's on somebody else's bike or another second-hand part. I noticed that Chain Reaction sell a cheaper tool. This would make more sense to me as I can just buy the right-threaded tap as I've no use for the left-threaded one - and save €30 in the process.

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience cleaning pedal threads or using "X-Tools" products. "X-Tools" seems to be a brand used by Chain Reaction used for non-branded parts. Other "X-Tools" products seem to get decent reviews online but I don't know if it's the same manufacturer who makes all the tools with this brand name.
