I am having problems with Microsoft word currently, I am doing an Irish essay and I can't do é, ó, í or ú. Whenever I do, other windows appear, does anybody know a way around this? As opposed to having to individually writing in every fodah? Go raibh maith agaibh! :)

    Hi op.

Try holding the "alt gr" button before pressing the letter you need.

on my keyboard you have to hold down "Ctrl", "Alt", and then the dash button ('), then type either (aeoiu) and you get a fada.

I'm using Word 2010 and as far as I can tell you don't need to press Alt to do the above. Also it's not a dash, it's an apostophe so you just press Ctrl+' followed by a vowel and you should get your letter appropriately decorated.

Personally I find the AltGr+letter combination much more intuitive and compatible across applications.
