    Looks well with solid chainrings!

Should have went for it in white!

Might look better with new black rings!

How did the sanding down go for you??

What made you choose between the options available on the website? Did you get the chainrings from them also or CRC?

    Thanks so much

By any chance can you take a picture of the other crank looking down from the saddle.

Ok I have look at the same bike on the net and figured out what types will fit.

All of them will fit bar the BOR, ROTOR 3D PLUS.

Different cranks may require a different bottom bracket thats not a major thing.

I just put on old chainrings for the winter to keep me going. Its a personal choice of which chainrings you go for.

I'd first start by washing the bike and then have a think about it!

Eh, its eh, washed now so can i buy some cranks?? :-)

Thanks for your help, so what makes me decide between the options at different prices? Is it mainly visual or is there a big difference performance wise between the options? So if a vega is €840 online, does that include everything i'd need to slap it on and start suffering for the winter with it? So what size is my crank?

I have a garmin 405 so i'd need something new there too?

Thanks so much, sorry for being a noob

It's ok you not a knob you just dont know much about this stuff.

the VEGA cranks would need an old style bottom bracket but with the rest a new style bottom bracket like the hollowtech.

Some cranks are stiffer some are heavier really depends on what you need them for and how much you want to spend.

Savage thanks for that, can see myself going for a Rotor 3D with Stronlight rings very soon! Seems like only roughly a 200g weight penalty, not so bad!

Looks very well, tempted to go for Aero rings because of that photo, lovely setup. What Cervelo is that? Running the 3D+ means you need a BB30 bottom bracket right? So it's not a S2 because as far as I know that has a standard BSA BB. S3 or something? Probably will have an S2 under me for next season.

Thanks again guys, well wear and feel free to post back with a review after using them. Cheers

The weight penalty is only 264 G as far as I kno the srm weight is 912 with chain rings not much in the difference.

    Thanks for all the help...

So, if I say bought the Vega, what else do I need to do given my current set up? A new bottom bracket? Do I need a new Garmin? If I got both, i'm ready to go with that? Thanks

Just came across this, interesting reading. Does anyone here zero their p2m during sessions?

WIth my powertap I generally cycle a few minutes and check the torque is zero'd... if not a zero it but would not look at it again during a session. I do check my power files afterwards for zero torque readings however.

I spotted that actually. With the P2M, it automatically adjusts itself at the start of the ride when you ease off the pedals (ie zero power). This has never caused me any problems, you generally have lots of zero power moments at the start of a road spin.

However on the rollers I have noticed it. And trying to freewheel on the rollers is a pain. I guess you have to decide if the trade off is worth the €€ saving. It is for me.

So is it just a case of freewheeling a few times for the first 10-15 mins of a ride and taking the data from that time with a pinch of salt.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I need some help!

I've just had my first spin with my new P2M and had paired it with my Joule. It picked it up no problem, but doesn't seem to record anything. It shows current power and cadence, but doesn't seem to record averages, maximums or show ride time. In fact, there was no data there when I tried to download my ride.

Has anyone else had an issue like this?

Never seen that but I would study your head unit a bit more... When you pedal your P2M wakes up and starts send out power/cadence numbers (which you see). After that it's the computer that displays and records. So I'd say it's something to do with the Joule head unit

Is there some kind of start button you haven't pressed?

There's no "start" button on the Joule - you press one to switch it on, and it then starts as son as it picks up a signal - it's actualy quite difficult to even pause it, where you have to press and hold one of the buttons for a second or two

I've had problems with Joules not being able to recall rides "on-screen" although I have been able to download the full ride details onto my computer. I also find it's difficult to work with Windows 7, and have to revert to an earlier version of windows to update the firmware. There's a new version of the Joule 2.0 out in the next month or so (not yellow!), and I'm hoping it will be a bit morte user friendly

@davidco, what version of firmware do you have (I'm currently running 14.072, which seems a bit better than some of the earlier versions)?

One further point - to record data the Joule requires an active paired Ant+ speed sensor or HRM, and you need to set which one will trigger it into action via the Settings/Memory menu under "record control"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 davidco

No there's no start button on the joule. It's meant to start as soon as you start pedalling which wakes up the pm and recording begins. At least that's what happens with my Powertap!

I wonder if it has something to do with having to be registering speed ie have a speed sensor set up? As it is in built in the PT, I don't have one and it's the only thing I can come up with!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,824 ✭✭✭levitronix

yeah get yourself a speed sensor and your good to go, theres an article on bikeradar about the same problem youd had using a joule and p2max

apart from my son biting the button almost off my joule am me sending it back as warranty issue haha and getting a new one from evans i cant complain about having any problems with mine

How come nobody has mentioned The Zone from Brim Brothers? It promises to be The Business and I'm going to hold my money until its out (and it'll be Irish as well)

Promises the world alright and has now for 3 or 4 years? Yet it has delivered nothing. According to some the science is flawed.

Rumour also has it that NO ONE other than the inventor has been allowed to try the "product" at road shows.

I would say the more established pm manufacturers are ****ting themselves because if it does work and is at the right price it will be the only option I would say for amateur riders...hence the rumours and the flawed science arguments..

Best of luck with it lads!

I suspect the scepticsm about this product is more driven by the 3+ years it has been talked about without, akaik, anyone outside the development team having seen a viable product

My problem with cleats is they wear out very quickly! That means they either need to develop a new type of hard-wearing cleat, or create a reusable part. I don't know what they are actually proposing to deal with this aspect

I would be delighted if a cheaper PM system became available, but I'm pretty sure that if this does work, one of the "big boys" will quickly be in to snap it up (and probably try to maintain relatively high prices).

AFAIK they are field testing as we speak. I was speaking to Ian at the CI AGM and he told me that was the plan. I was trying to get in as a tester. I use Speedplay and the cleats are very durable so we will see how it goes.

Sorry for resurrecting an old post, just seemed sensible to add onto it than start a new one.

I'm looking at P2M's at the moment and have a couple of questions:

What do most people use for power display? Edge 500's? Is there any problems with Garmin accuaracy?
