Any good books/guides/samples on application architecture?

I want to write an application that will take several months and will have multiple components doing different tasks. I know how to handle each task but what I dont know how to do is how to put it all together in a solid well architectured system. I have heard about stuff like MVVM and MVP but all the info I found on the net on them is kind of half arsed. I have stopped working on my application at the moment as I think there is no point continuing until I have a solid framework to work with and Im not just winging it.

So Im looking for some recommendations on books or sample applications that cover this stuff like MVP or MVVM in its entirety.

IT Architectures and Middleware: Strategies for Building Large, Integrated Systems by Chris Britton and Peter Bye (Paperback - Jun 3 2004)

This book is good, although it could probably do with updating!

Two that I've read that are worth reading are Professional Enterprise .NET and Architecting Microsoft® .NET Solutions for the Enterprise. The Wrox one in particular I found a life-saver when I needed to get a handle on Inversion of Control and the Model View Presenter pattern.

I would second Malice's recommendations. I've read them both and they are excellent. Scott Millet has an even better one on asp.net now. I think to get a good grounding on designing complicated applications it's well worth considering a classic like Domain Driven Design - it's not covering the patterns you are interested in but any book that does cover it will reference DDD.

Well you would use IOC and DI along with repositories when designing in the DDD pattern, and they're very good things to learn anyway! It's what I use for most of my applications anyway, loads of opportunities to refactor and resuse.
