I've had a DHD since March and it's got to be one of the best phone's i've ever had, never had an issue with it. Maybe you just got a 'Friday Afternoon' one??

Rooting a different ROM makes any htc phone better.

Yeah but then decided to root it and install custom roms. Totally different phone with a new rom on it.

Had mine since the day it first hit our shores... and I still love it :D ...praying in vain for some ICS.. if not guess it's the custom ROM road for me.

Guy in my class has one too and has had nothing but problems.. like almost a different one every day XD. So maybe it's a bit hit and miss.

Great phone! I had it for a while and upgraded to sensation...happy HTC customer.

Really enjoy the phone bar a (IMO) somewhat poor camera. All my photos seem to blur as the shutter speed is too slow.
One thing lately though is the phone thinks I'm a car... It switches into car mode at times. When this happens any call made / received is, by default, on loud speaker. Quickly switched off but it's annoying. I know what's wrong from a quick google but it seems some of the hardware touches are a bit sloppy.

As a phone it's awful. Very poor call quality. Awful camera. Screen is very poor outdoors. Excellent for browsing the internet, but occasional temperamental connection and browser crashes. Very good video camera. If it was a better phone I'd give it maybe 8/10 but seeing it is poorest as what should be it's main purpose I can't give it more than 3 or 4/10.

My experiences are nearly totally opposite. No problems with call quality. It's entirely likely there are phones with better call quality but during a call I can hear the other end clearly and they can hear me so that's all I want. I use the speakerphone & bluetooth also for the phone frequently.
Camera is fine. Screen is better indoors but I can use it outdoors (luckily Ireland doesn't get sun). Never have an issue with the internet and use Dolphin HD which never crashes. I didn't notice crashes on the stock browser but I haven't been using that for most of the year. I've installed a tonne of apps on it and have no issues. The odd app has a problem but if I install a dodgy app and it annoys me I uninstall it.

Temperamental internet connection could be down to the ISP. I'm with Vodafone and use the mobile internet when I'm out an about. I've never needed internet remotely and found it not available. I use WiFi when in work and at home.

I have been using Launcher Pro for most of the phones life. I just prefer it's customisations. The phone is still on the stock ROM and updates every few months. It's on 2.3.3 now so it's a bit behind the latest.

My wife got one at the same time as me and has been using HTC sense and maybe about 10 apps that she doesn't change much. She's had no problems at all (I know all about it when she has problems with tech).

I'm thinking it's time to upgrade with the dual cores now but I haven't seen anything that's a great leap up for me and it's not like the phone is slow so I'll hang on until 1st or 2nd quarter next year.
For reliability and performance over the last year I'd give it 8/10. I'd never give anything 10/10 because that'd mean I'd have the best phone ever made :D
It'd get a 9/10 if the battery would last longer than 2 days.

I'm in similar situation to Mickoneill, have a DHD and wife has an ordinary Desire. Both good. Occasional problem with wifi, but I've seen that on non HTC phones. Seems to be an Android problem. Occasionally I have to restart the wifi router at home.
Used to have an iphone, brilliant, but I hate the Apple restrictions.

I have had HDH since last December - brilliant phone - battery is not the best but there are ways to get around that so does not really border me. Had iPhone previously as well - but like HTC better :D

How do you root a ROM?

Battery life is rotten. Screen acts very bizarrely when it's plugged into a charger. Camera is pretty dodgy

But overall i'm fairly happy with it.

Also, I would agree that battery life is poor, around one day, though this could be the same with all smart phones, the HTC is the first I've had. Running apps are at the absolute minimum.

The radio is awful. I can get three stations. RTE1 and 2, and a local station. Can only listen to these in mono, stereo is too poor.

Right now, my phone has to go back as it has no sound whatsoever. No ringtone or media sounds.

I think next time, I will use a tablet for the internet and as simple and functional a phone as I can get for calls.

I've had mine 12 months now, briefly had the original Desire before it. Battery is pretty poor but I use it for work so gets a lot of use. I've an issue with the power button on mine, can often start putting it in and out of standby by itself which can drain the battery.

6 months left on my contract, not sure what I'm going to move to next as I'm hesitant to get another HTC due to battery life. Are they samsungs performing any better?

Best phone I have ever had, agree very hard to seen screen outside.

Have had two of them and all good. Highly reccommend rooting and putting Android Revolution HD on it! Makes a BID difference and you still have all the nice HTC Sense bits :-)

    Cheers,
    M
