Anyone know the best route into town on the morning of the marathon from Castleknock/Blanchardstown area? Suggested time to leave?

I think the 39x goes straight into town down O'Connell St, at least it used to a few years back.

Can't help you with time to leave but early would be good ;)

Straight down the navan road, old Cabra road, hanlons corner, manor street... I would be passing hanlons at around nine, cause they do close the road there, but probably not till 9:30 or so...

I just did 12 this morning and the wind was a bitch, probably a poor route choice on my behalf. My advice to people, if it's like this on Monday, watch the heart rate, the wind will be doing it's best to raise it. No matter how hard I tried today I couldn't get my heart rate down and this led to a horrible last couple of miles. So you may have to forget about pace and just focus on effort.

Best of luck all, I'll be at the top of Milltown with the camera so be sure to smile.

Had an early run myself this morning, and I have to say the wind, although very tough in places, was behind me for about 60% of the run

Hey,Just want to come on and wish everyone here the very best of luck, do your best to enjoy the day and remember if it was easy everyone would be able to run a marathon. I ran the DCM last year and found everyone on last years thread a tremendous support plus I got some amazing advice that certainly helped to get me across the finish line. Best of luck everyone...YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Oh...and enjoy your few beers afterwards:D

dart services are disrupted for the next couple of weeks.
if your planning on getting the dart to the expo or marathon on monday
might be worth checking to see if your affected:

Best of luck to you all running on Monday.

gonna be less than ideal, it appears - tough it out, suck it up and HTFU to you all!

May the wind be mainly at your backs, and the rain just a cooling drizzle :)

Weather will be perfect, dry at the start, very mild. Nice shower to cool us down about 12 o'clock. Pleasant breeze behind us the last 6 miles.
    You heard it here first.

    Hi guys,

I never was very good at Geography. We are promised strong southeryly winds tomorrow. At least it will keep the weather mild.

I think the wind will be in our face from mile 6 to 15 but crucially it will be at our back for the last 5 miles.

    Do you agree with this?

Any tips on how to adjust for the wind.

    Thanks

Looks about right. Miles 1 and 2 could be fast but 19-21 could be very slow.

Are you running the race? If so, then be careful with buses - I think Bank Holiday timetables are the same as a Sunday and might even be too late for the race start.

Was running in the Phoenix Park this morning - strangely quiet! The wind was bad in the exposed places but for the most part it wasn't really that noticeable. The main thing that I was surprised with was how warm it is - it really is very mild out there. Anyhoo, good luck to all tomorrow, am looking forward to the race reports!

well... if it stops for you (both 4 & 7), as they were completely packed today - looks like despite DART problems and extra people for expo dublin bus didn't think about providing extra buses... :(

BTW, what time does the race actually start?
"Start & Finish Areas" map (the small one) says: 10, 10:10, 10:20. All the time before it was said: 9:50, 9:55, 10 (as the big map at the end of programme also says)

can anyone shine some light on this please... It says in the race pack magazine that ur chip is attached to the back of ur race number, on mine there is two pieces of sponge , but no physical chip, well at least not the ones i would be used to attaching to my runners anyway..

are these spongy things the chip or am I missing mine??

Your chip is under the sponge. It's really just a thin strip of metal (transponder) taped to the bib.

could anybody offer any advice on what to have for breakfast the morning of the marathon?

i looked into it a bit and there it seems a bit conflicting...

What do you eat on the morning and have found that it works for you??

I will carbo load the day before and have planned two pasta meals for tommoro so i have that much covered.

You've answered your own question. Eat what works for you. What did you eat before your long runs? Eat the same thing.

For me, it'll be porridge, bread and peanut butter, and a great big mug of strong coffee.

Personally I wouldn't change anything from my normal breakfast routine I used on my long run training. I would strongly suggest not trying anything new or different, go with what you know works as you really don't want cramps or bathroom breaks during your run.

For my first two marathons, my breakfast consisted of porridge with cinnamon, honey and raisins, a bagel with red cherry jam, and a large mug of black coffee - the same thing that I'd had before pretty much all my LSRs. For my third, the hotel were jerks about opening the canteen at 6.30am, so I ended up eating a crumbly Catalan seeded pastry and having a coffee. Funnily enough, I set a 26 minute PB in my third marathon...

(btw, the coffee is there for the dual purpose of waking me up and clearing the pipes :pac: )

Mine will simply consist of my normal breakfast. Porridge with banana, a toasted bagel, a glass of orange juice and a cup of tea.

Yes, eat what you are used to. Bear in mind though that coffee is a diuretic.

Contrary to popular belief, caffeine does not act as a diuretic when consumed in moderation, and does not lead to dehydration or to a water-electrolyte imbalance; current evidence suggests that caffeinated beverages contribute to the body's daily fluid requirements no differently from pure water.
