My nephew used one of them a while ago and he was charged a small fortune. I can't remember exactly what he was charged, but he had €50.00 in change and was charged something like €5.00.

The charge 10% regardless of whether you take a voucher that can be cashed at Customer Service or a voucher that can be used on groceries in Tesco. The signs on the machines are very misleading.

Why not buy non-perishable food with the coins?

Used it in tesco. 10% fee on the machine, but worth it unless you want to count them yourself into little plastic bags, bring it to the bank and told you have to lodge it into your account.

    10% charge as said already....

If you do use it you might take out the €2, €1, 50c coins. Easier to count yourself plus will help keep the charge down

Buy things on the self service in tesco and use the coins there? No fee.

Banks charge shops for change. Try changing it in a local shop

Use it to pay for a few bus fares, the driver would be glad of the change! Or use it on the vending machines.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭maxfresh

Just go into tesco ,buy a load of stuff and pay for it in the self service till ,just pour all ur change into the coin slot thingy , no 10% charge

If you've got a big load of coins it's well worth the 10% charge. I'm not bringing hundreds of copper coins with me when I go shopping :P

Used one only today in a Spar or Eurospar. 12.5% sure no bother can't be arsed counting that filthy pissy money and having to get it changed anyway. Came to about 18 something and I got 16 something back.

Really though? For the sake of a few quid at most?
It saves you hours of time, and you can do it on your way to do the shopping, so you aren't making extra trips.

Yes, coin counting machines have brought the downfall of the country.

Why in the name of fup in this day and age do we even have any coins smaller than 5p/c ?
Buy things on the self service in tesco and use the coins there? No fee.
Used to do that (the only time Id ever use one of the damn things TBH) but lately they seemed to have changed the software and Ive sometimes found myself with more small change than ive put in
Just count it up and bring it into the bank ya lazy f*cks.

good idea guys about using the change in the tesco self service check out isle.
have used that mahcine in tesco in mallow and charged 9 cent for every euro counted, we were delighted to get our cash at the end - convenient

Banks have restrictions on coin transactions. It's only allowed at certain times. Nobody wants to be stuck behind someone, 1c, 2c, 3c oh look 5c ... Now where was I... Oh have to start over again!

Plus dont coins have to be bagged 100 in 1c coins etc... Very doubtful from a buch of random change that you can make even amounts in bags and it's a pain in the ass to count that much change

Not to mention, it weighs a ****load

Why oh why would you give 10% of your money to those machines? May aswell throw a tenner in the bin! Who owns them anyway?

If you can't be arsed counting it then get a young relative to do it for you. Then give them the 10%.
