Fees not Paid - College hounding me, what to do?

Hey guys,

I am just over a month back in college over a month. It's a part time degree course. Last year I paid all my fees in time(took a loan out) bar a small few hundred which was still paid well before the end of year. A person in my class didn't pay the majority of his fees until the very end of the year and it was fine. I really didn't want to borrow this year so i've just paid a few hundred off so far though i'm supposed to have half my fees paid at this stage. I literally don't have it. I phoned to explain to accounts that i'd be paying as much as I could and I had unexpected car problems which cost me €400. They've been hounding me with phone calls, e-mails, they sent a letter stating access to all IT services and the library would be withdrawn as of from the 4th November. One of the services is one I need to print off my college notes for each lecture. I plan on paying a good few hundred off them in November and to have them paid in full early next year. Has anyone had any dealings with this sort of thing, what did you do? I really don't want to borrow.

Have you spoken to your student union pres or welfare officer?

They may be able to help.

I'd also suggest talking to your year head/course co-ordinator/department secretary etc.

I'd second the above recommendation. There also may be a student hardship fund or an SU loans system (I know my own college does both of these) so it's definitely worth getting in contact with your SU officers. There may be a fund in place to help you out until you get yourself sorted, or they may be able to make representations on your behalf to the relevant departments or offices to reach an agreement on how you'll pay your fees.
