Clear the messaging apps data in Settings>Applications>Manage

    Great thanks

I have a problem with Market lately. When I want to look at the screenshots of apps, the second screenshot doesn't load, I just get a blank screen. And I frequently get "Force Close" in Market. Market itself takes forever to load these days too.
I also find my Wildfire really slow lately, I have cleared the cache in all the apps, but most of the time I don't even bother going on the Internet anymore as pages take forever to load. Which is a shame, as it was one of the reasons I got the phone in the first place.
Next time, I'll aim for a phone with a faster processor...:o

Only found this cool 'Secret brightness control trick' today by way of stumbling onto this youtube link. No one I asked knows about it and I think it's too cool not to share! My question is, Does this 'trick' only work on Galaxy S and S2 or any android phone?

    Thanks!

Sorry if this has been asked a million times. I just got a Galaxy S II today. When I try to connect to my home wireless it says "authenticating" for a while and then "disconnected". Anyone able to help me? Thanks.

Can anyone advise me on what I need to do?

Presumably my settings need to be altered ?- but I dont know what needs to be done

Setting up the Email account on HTC phones

    1. Open the main Menu and press Email (or Mail) to start the email application.
    2. If available, tap a mail provider, or tap Other (POP3/IMAP), if your email is already on your phone open the account and press Menu>Settings>Account Settings.
    3. Enter your Email address and Password into the relevant fields and tap Manual setup.
    4. When prompted for the type of account, select IMAP4
    5. Verify that the Username and password fields are completed correctly.
    6. Select the POP/IMAP server field, enter imap4.virgin.net
    7. Select Port and enter 993
    8. Select the Security type dropdown and enter SSL.
    9. Tap Next.
    10. If the incoming settings are successfully verified the device will require setup of the Outgoing server settings. Ensure the Login required checkbox is ticked.
    11. Enter the Username and Password for the email account.
    12. Select the SMTP server field, enter smtp.virgin.net
    13. Select Port and enter 465
    14. Select the Security type dropdown and enter SSL.
    15. Tap Next (and, if necessary, Next again).
    16. If the Outgoing server settings are successfully verified enter the desired values in the Account name and Your name fields.
    17. Tap Done or Finish setup.

    Hope that helps! :)

The same places you would on your computer? You can also get Torrent apps for Android.

I don't know of any such websites. I've never downloaded a movie online for free before.

Your best bet is torrent sites, obviously read the comments, although you'd really want to own the physical media too.

    Eh, some basic questions here...

Is it worth my while rooting my SE X8? I'm on 2.1, am I right in thinking that if I root it, I can install a newer version of Android? And will I benefit much from updating, in terms of battery life, processing speed, etc?

If I do so, will my phone be wiped clean in terms of messages, apps, etc?

Based on the XDA thread, there are already some ICS ROMs available, though these would be experimental at this stage.

If I were you, I would go with CyanogenMod 7.1 or 7.2. See the XDA link for some customised versions.

Almost certainly, especially with CM7 as it does not contain any bloatware [excessive apps that you more than likely do not need]. Also, it is optimised so that battery life can often be almost doubled.

Yes, however, applications like Titanium Backup can help with this.

If you dont have an "OTA or Over The Air" upgrade available the only way to update is to flash it.

    What version are you on?

OK, so I rooted my phone, but it now seems that I have to unlock the bootloader in order to flash a new ROM onto it - is that right?

It also seems that doing so is fairly complicated and risky...

I've noticed App APKs listed online for whole sequences of devices, not just droid versions, what's the difference between them in realistic terms, obviously they're snatched from different devices, but how does one determine compatibility?

I'm asking as I just snatched the gMusic apk from my Dropad's backup and dropped it onto my X10i and it appears to work perfectly. They're both 2.3 but otherwise completely different hardware.

Thanks! I'll have a look at that now! Will I be able to remove certain things straight away or will I need a certain app?

Get Titanium Backup and you'll be able to freeze/delete the bloatware.

    Quick question:
Does anyone with TuneInPro know how to export recordings from the app? I can access the file but there is no extension attached and I haven't been able to guess one that works.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Zagato

This may be a stupid answer but if you can access the file, can you not just drag and drop to your PC via USB and then see what it is.

If you long press the file name does it not give you an option of 'Details' -oh that doesn't help just checked with one myself :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,321 ✭✭✭Jackobyte

According to the internet, it can't be done. They seem to use either a rare file type or a propriety format for their recordings.

On another note, I was having trouble with my Galaxy Tab 10.1 freezing and crashing a lot so I factory reset it. That seems to have solved the problem except now my facebook calendar including all the birthdays no longer appears in my calendar. I had never done anything to add these in the first place so I've no idea how to get it back. Any ideas?

EDIT: Got it to work by exporting from facebook by url into google calendar but it isn't the setup I used have as they are now marked in a rusty brown or green whereas they used be varying shades of blue, depending on whether they were birthdays or events.

Going back to an old post here, but I ROM'd an old X8 the other night. Used Froyobread 23b. Its just 2.1 but much better than stock. Could put ICS on it but not really bothered with such a low spec device. Runs like a dream though.
